I'll throw my 2 cents in...
Just got back from replacing a back tire... however, I am now a believer in runflats... was able to drive to and from work and to the dealer with 0 psi. Definitely saved the hassle of tow trucks and no transportation.... NY roads are a disaster, though. |

This year is probably the worst I've seen ever. Not sure if this is fixable anytime soon either. They are on such a massive scale too so getting to all of them will take a serious budget.

I was on a Coach USA bus yesterday going to N.Y, when suddenly a big " BOOM." Seconds later, the entire frontend dropped. Got into Port Authority and got off the bus. It looked like the front suspension was gone. I just can't imagine if that was a passenger vehicle.

I'm driving the minivan now since I'm waiting to install winters on the Bimmer. The car has a lot more rubber. I am still careful but count every pothole dip I take and asses if it would've broken a tire or not. So far every trip I take over 20 minutes has 1 definite and at least 1 maybe. While I hate driving the minivan I'm glad I'm not breaking rims or blowing tires.

I destroyed 2 Conti tires going over the BQE in NY. Cost me about 500 for tires that still had a ton of tread left. I hear you have to take a photo of the pothole and have a police report for them to even consider compensating you.

I have never seen the roads in such poor condition. No matter where you go on LI, there are potholes everywhere. This alone is the reason why I will not purchase another motorcycle. It's bad enough that you have to worry about the drivers on the road when riding. Now I have to add the pothole factor into the mix.

I prefer gravel roads because they are great in the winter, good traction, no potholes, nice inch of snow-pack on top of it makes it like white asphalt. Sounds like they would be better off going back to gravel in some places out east.
The best way to have good year round roads is for the cities to NOT to use salt. Snow tires and regular plowing keep the roads safe and in good condition. |

I hit a pothole and got a cracked back wheel and a bubble in my front tire. I got all of that fixed and Omw home I hit another one so bad my passenger side rim broke my fender open :/

Wow, when I seen a thread titled "potholes" I assumed it would be a UK forum thread, seems like you guys and us are having the same issues, the roads here a a joke and not a funny one at that. Cracked wheels, chunks ripped out of tyres and suspension damage.
Can you guys claim of the authority who owns the road for damage?? We can, but it's a hard thing to do.

I am literally afraid to drive in NYC. I have never seen so many DEEP holes. Have been avoiding getting behind the wheel unless absolutely necessary.
The holes are everywhere! Even more amazing is how DEEP they are. I would say no less than 3 inches deep. In some cases I managed to avoid holes no less than 6 inches deep. I am style 230 19s and have been extremely careful to avoid holes. Still, once winter ends, I am doing my alignment and going to see whether any rim needs straightening. Got some shake going on. Either way, I keep a brand new rim in my closet. DO NOT DRIVE IN NYC or the Tristate area.
