There should be a control unit, could be a Bluetooth module and etc. I certainly did not expect to find an empty place. It is probably being relocated for 2007/335 but I am not sure where. I went to RealOEM to check but they don't have anything for 2007 year.

This Kit looks promising. It's discribed as "The Genuine BMW E92 E93 3-Series iPod retorofit installation kit."
Does anyone know if this is the kit that has the USB in the glove-box? I'b prefer the 6FL ipod hook-up in the console... Genuine BMW E92 E93 3-Series iPod retorofit installation kit. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E...ayphotohosting

The bay on the right is for the TCU, the bay on the left is (usually) for the Sirius receiver. Both of these are optional (Premium package, Sirius).
The Logic7 controller/amp is under the plastic cover (with the kleenex-box icon on it) on floor left-rear of the trunk. This is also where the CD changer goes, or the Sirius radio if you have the weird sept/06->march/07 configuration. Either of these requires a new left trunk carpet with a lump here. |

This is the dealer installed kit NOT the 6FL (which is only available from the factory). This is NOT USB. It has an iPod docking connector in the glovebox. Installation is a major item and probably should be done by a dealer. In any case, the dealer has to program the car to accept it.

iPod/USB Adapter Parts List e90
These are the part numbers for post-March 2007 E90s with the 6FL option:
84109123739 USB hub 84109123739 Protective socket for USB hub (looks like the bottom of a container that the hub fits into) 84109125680 Cover for protective socket (the lid of the container) 84109143446 Adapter lead 61319129652 Aux-In + USB socket (goes in the center console) I have no idea where the USB hub goes, I can't see it in my M3 that has the 6FL option. It is not under the trunk floor as far as I can tell. I couldn't find any wiring variations apart from the adapter lead mentioned above (which looks to be short) so it seems probable to me that post 3/07 cars are pre-wired. I have no idea about coding either. Obviously a "Y" adapter cable is also needed to run an iPod. For cars between 3/07 and 9/07 without voice control and navigation an additional part is required, 84109149843. |

I found the parts for about 150 total I don't need the nav/voice control since i have it already. I ordered them and should have them next week. I think the usb hub goes behind the ac controls and connects into the radio. It would be nice if someone with it could check take pics etc.. well wish me luck.

Yes, good luck Sparcomx. I have also ordered the parts, although for my June 07 X5 rather than my e90 M3 (that already has USB).
They are much the same bits as the e90 but the USB hub is mounted on a bracket instead of in a box. Also there is no additional cable listed in the parts catalog. The prices I paid for the main items were (plus taxes, etc): 84 10 9 123 739 :USB hub $72.27 84 10 9 134 266 :Bracket $3.21 61 31 9 129 652 :USB/AUX-IN socket $39.44 So no big outlay. I will need another Y cable also if it works. I haven't yet worked out where they go but I suspect that Sparcomx is right that it is somewhere behind of the radio. If it turns out to be easy-ish to install and needs no coding then it could be a better deal than a factory-fit 6FL. |

I was just browsing through the BMW parts catalog and I noticed that a huge proportion of e90 electronic and audio components are listed as up to 03/07 or from 03/07. A significant but much lesser proportion are also listed as up to 09/07 or from 09/07, or from 03/07 to 09/07.
Also the replacement main wiring harness is listed as from 03/07. It seems to me that the reason that BMW imply that 6FL is not possible to retrofit is that so many components of a pre-03/07 car would need to be changed that it is not viable. And maybe they have a lot of MOST iPod kits left or committed to purchase. I am still optimistic about upgrading post 03/07 cars. And indeed I just noticed that there is a part number for a USB/Audio Interface Retrofit Kit, 65 41 0 443 678 which seems to cover all options of radio/iDrive/Voice/Nav, etc., built from 03/07. And better still it says that installation instructions are not included but are available (as is normal) via the After-Sales Portal. Fitting time is quoted as from 2 - 2.25 hours. Does anyone know someone in a BMW dealer that can download the fitting instructions? |

Sorry, one thing I missed.
The kit only operates in conjunction with "Hands-Free Electronics" which I take to mean Bluetooth. So perhaps a previous author was right when he suggested that they had put a USB port onto the Bluetooth box. |

I've read through this thread, but no one has really talked about the 6FL retrofit kit from BMW. I heard months ago about this, but that it was only for "business" audio systems and never really became available for the "other cars." I got a copy of the BMW installation instructions, which show all the parts, the wiring diagram, and their locations.
However, these instructions specifically talk about professional navigation (SA609) and the voice input system (SA620.) This looks like it would work "for the rest of us." This kit is designed for the 1 (E81,E82,E87,E88) and 3 series (E90,E91,E92,E93) cars. For this kit, it talks about two retrofit kit part numbers: 65 41 0 443 678 and 65 41 0 445 465. I'm not sure which one is which and if they are available as was talked about earlier. (Tischer doesn't show anything on these p/n's, neither does REALOEM.) If I had a way to post this .pdf, I would so you all could read it. However, if you PM me, I'll email it to you..its approx. 2 MB. For whoever asked, the USB hub is located (in this retrofit) in the driver's side footwell inlay. |

I now have the installation instructions. Some points:
Instructions are only valid for cars from radio level 2 onwards. Retrofit kit No. 65 41 0 443 678 USB/audio interface retrofit kit 65 41 0 445 465 USB/audio interface retrofit kit The installation time for cars with SA 644 is approx. 2.0 hours, and approx. 2.25 hours for cars with SA 640. The installation time will be approx. 2.5 hours for cars without SA 640 or SA 644. This may vary depending on the condition of the car and the equipment in it. Coding is required unfortunately and the kit includes rather more parts than I listed previously, including a retrofit cable that runs from the trunk to the radio and to the USB hub in the footwell. I am actually surprised that BMW quote such a short installation time. It is not yet clear to me what second kit number is for as I cannot find it in the ETK. It seems that the 1 series uses the same kit as the 3. |

This is really promising stuff. I have a Nov 2006 e90. I've heard that cars post Mar. 07 have different electronics, and therefore could be retrofit. However these instructions don't specify date, just the series. Therefore, can pre-Mar 07 cars take advantage of this?
After all, Since all cars post Mar 07 have the hub anyway, it seems redundant that they would have "retrofit" instructions... |

These are the part numbers for the contents of the two kits:
07129906048 M5 Hex nut (4) 51479125333 Foam insert - footwell 51479125335 Foam insert - footwell 61120444603 Retrofit wiring harness 61131637599 Cable strap 200mm (10) 61136915974 Cable strap with bracket (2) 61319129651 USB/Aux-in socket 65159135667 Bracket for telematic control unit 84109123739 USB hub 84109125680 Protective socket USB hub 84109125866 Cover for protective socket 84109143446 Adapter lead USB socket The 65410445465 kit has one additional part: 61120445328 Retrofit wiring harness That appears to be the power supply cable that is only required for cars without SA640 or SA644. Those cars also need a plug housing 61133333333 that is not listed as part of the kit contents. |

Buried in the text of the instructions is that for all cars except those with voice input and without navigation you need to buy a "High electronic charger/hands-free module" which I take to mean a Bluetooth box. If you have Bluetooth you take out the "Low electronic charger/hands-free module" and replace it with the "High" unit. Based on past experience I would guess that item to be expensive. The part number for the US with English/Spanish languages is 84109187629 for cars from 09/07 and 84109149843 from 03/07 to 09/07.
