I only thought BMW owners were doing that j/k....

What is this? a private garage? who knows, maybe he owns the 2 spots anyway.

basically with a good lawyer (which you have if you can afford a 458) you will get the door replaced and repainted, at a ferrari dealer. And if you think BMW charges a lot ....bascially it could cost you $5000+ I would think. I read a couple threads on ferrarichat about someone doors dinging an old 575, can't imagine the cost for a 458.

The truth is there are an far too many situational variables to claim a certain behavior is better or worse than another. Except with extreme examples of course. Any time I catch myself being bothered by another person I take a step back and ask myself, why or what is going on in that persons life that could have caused them to do such a thing.

I used to curse drivers with a wanton disregard for road safety until my mother landed herself in ICU for three months and I spent many hours and many days flying to the hospital out of fear that my mother was about to pass. Now everytime I see some road demon I just try to think about what could possibly be causing them to act so carelessly.

The key to all of this is patience and time. A virtue and comodity extremely rare in this world these days. The day I get upset about a guy in a quarter million dollar Ferrari taking up two spaces is a sad day indeed.
I admire your maturity

You all know how this will end, the guy next to him will leave and a hater will show up and make sure they park as close to him as possible, too bad he did not back in then you know someone would park in his door and we all know how hard it is to climb through that car.

Richard Hammond said it best (I'm paraphrasing): What's the point of buying a car that you'll almost never drive? And when you do drive it, you're too afraid of it being damaged or spat at. Buy a Porsche instead.

IMO this is sending the wrong message and inviting vandalism. I would have parked in such a way that it would have been next to impossible for some else to park beside me without making it so obvious i was taking up two spaces

I don't blame you, I did the same at my work. After my old car got dinged 3 or 4 times I made my own space apart from all the other inferior cars. I was the first to do it. Now some people with crap cars take my space if there aren't any others available. 99% of the time thought, IT'S MINE!!!

He's a considerate dick. I had a mini van park so poorly that they blocked me in. I might have done something if there wasn't a Baby on Board sticker on the back windshield.

I should take some pictures next time I'm around Worth Ave. in Palm Beach. Last time I was there I seen nearly a dozen Rolls Royce Phantoms parked on the side of the street like any other car.. Not to mention all the Bentley's and other very nice expensive cars. There had to have been at least $10M in high end cars parked around all the fancy stores on worth ave.

I can. Unless he actually bought those parking spots he has no right to do what he did.

That's just too bad. if he's afraid of his car getting dinged up maybe he shouldn't take it out in the first place!

I agree, it is an asshole move to park in 2 spaces.. way more in favor of finding an "end space" or cramming to one side or the other.

But--

For those that say this guy is an asshole, or arrogant...

What do you think about when you see the '95 honda civic with a bodykit parked sideways in a space? ...

And --what do you think about when driving YOUR BMW and you come out and find door dings or dents?

THEN --
think about paying well over $250,000 on a CAR. I mean, think about that. We have 20-40k BMWs and we baby the crap out of them. That ferrari is more than most people's houses.

Now, think about if it was one of the 5 times you took your new 458 out to enjoy, parked it, and came back to a bunch of door dings from a soccer mom and her kids....

We all love cars - to very much different degrees. I agree it is rude to take more than 1 spot. No one is saying you are "scared" to take out the ferrari and drive it, but lets all be realistic...

If you had a 458, you would do the same thing - you may not take 2 spots, but you damn well you are parking at the end of the lot, or on the top floor, etc.

This is such a open-ended debate and very subjective as everyone has a different "love" of cars, but "most" non-car people, don't give a shit about your doors or dents, or scratches - so "disrespect for other's peoples property" is almost just as "rude" as parking in 2 spots IMO
I'm a car guy mysef and if I saw something like that I'd deliberately borrow a friend/relative's POS beater and shove it into the tiny space to crowd him out. Just because his car is more overpriced than mine doesn't give him the right to take someone else's parking spot. Yes I get it that he's concerned about door dings in an expensive car, but that's a risk we all have to take. Otherwise maybe he shouldn't have bought such a car and gotten something more practical and less expensive.

Besides, I can argue that a 10 year old civic driven by a broke single mom is probably just as worthy of parking like that because any door dings can be financially crippling to fix for the owner. On the other hand, the guy who blew off more money on a glorified toy than most people earn in a decade, can probably easily afford to fix a door ding or two without having to skip a few meals to afford it.

But, what if there weren't those spaces? What if you knew you were leaving in a half hour? Or, whatever THAT particular situation was.

It is pretty easy to declare on the internet that you "wouldn't do that" , but when push came to shove, and you were sitting in your quarter-MILLION dollar car, what would you really do?

I'm not calling you out, or saying you are lieing, I'm just saying that I think it's really easy for people to criticize someone from 1 picture that was taken and posted on some car forum, then it is to be the guy sitting behind the wheel on that ridiculously beautiful and expensive exotic car.

I mean, its not even like its an M3 or M5, its a freaking 4-5-8.. one of the greatest supercars made arguably ever...

Like the saying goes, actions speak louder than words. Very easy for many that posted in here of what "they would do", but not many of us are driving a car like that is my point really.
Big friggin deal. It's not like it's the starship Enterprise or anything. 458 or not, it's just a friggin car, nothing more. If the owner is gonna drive it, then he should be prepared to deal with stuff like door dings, scratched paint, rock chips on the hood or windshield, possible bent rims from potholes, etc. these things happen to each and every car driven on the road, without exception. If he's so concerned about his car being damaged maybe he should put it in a museum and not drive it on the road at all.
