FWIW, I think the Subie looks okay. It's not for me, but I think it looks all right.

Other hatch/wagon alternatives that would be fun to drive:
E91 328i/xi
Mazdaspeed 3
VW GTI
Audi A3 2.0T
Audi A4/S4 Avant
Mini Cooper S

As and Ex Evo owner I know you'll have a blast with the STI! ... TBE and tune and you'll have a big fat smile on your face everytime you hit the gas! I think the car will get better looking from aftermarket and be sure to the get the JDM rear taillights that are all red and get rid of the ugly altezza looking ones.

Initial reliability is gonna be about neck and neck. Its all about after about 75K miles when you see why people prefer japanese brands over german. I will say BMW is much more reliable than in the past.

Why not just a B7 S4 avant? Seems to fit your needs. Amazing sound with full exhaust.

i'd buy a 335 touring in a heart beat if they brought them over. If BMW USA decides to bring it over they need to appeal to the sport minded to move the cars and not so much the stereotypical mommy mobile. Bring it over market it as a more blissful alternative to the e90 sedan because you need a bit more room.

WOW that Sti looks tremendous!
Wish they came out the factory like that!
I agree with a few other people, get the 328i Touring and put a supercharger on that thing!

The OP was looking for a performance station wagon, a 335iT. BMW sells wagons here, but they don't get the top engines and we get no M tourings, like with M5 wagon. I think the E46 only got a 325iT.

Speaking as a fellow 44-year old like the OP, the credible alternatives are the X5 and Cayenne - we're the demographic those were aimed at.

You are for sure right that BMW needs to import the E91 335iT...so sick. And a 5-door 1er would be awesome...especially with the twin-turbo 3.0L. BMW is for sure lacking the the wagon department. Where Audi has the S4 Avant, BMW has NOTHING. Its sad when BMW owners are forced to go the Subaru to find a suitable wagon...

Interior interior interior interior bla bla bla bla

I'd like to see how well your 3 Series does at the track in comparison, or in the snow, or in the rain or wait, it wouldn't hold a candle to it stock for stock or mod for mod. But hey at least you can read a newspaper and drink coffee while driving.

i had the previous STi... GREAT CAR.. I paid just under $30,000 for it
it was a stand out car, whether you liked the look or not...
and it performs better than the 2008-2009 Sti's

what im trying to say is dont waste your money... the STi is NOT what it used to be, and the price went up (a bmw for the same cost is a no brainer..)

If you like STi's grab an 05-07..
and realize your driving around in a aluminum can with a monster motor, and great AWD system.. the interior isnt terrible either in the subaru's (better than honda's etc), but dont compare it to a bmw lol..

PRE 08 = STI > EVO
POST 08 = EVO > STI
..'nother thing to think about

Just my word of advice from a 19 year old still waiting to own an STI like car... it's not practical, your family won't like it because they'll break their backs riding with you, you don't sound like you'll be using it for what it was really built for (which is on a track or dirt path), and you sound like you had your heart set on a BMW.

i know you can't wait anymore, but there are many more cars out there suited to what you should like. good luck with finding a new car! hope you end up with the BMW

Have you even test drive the 2008 STI? It's a pretty soft and comfy ride, definately a lot more grown up and easier suspensions for day to day driving. My 335i w/ sports package was a ton stiffer.

Congrats to the OP, I was looking into a 2008 STI when they were offering crazy discounts like 30-32k for a fully loaded 08 STI and 0% financing. What killed it was the fact that my fully loaded 48k 3 month old 335i was appraised at 32k...

With a couple mods you can turn your STI into a real beast. Too many people pick their cars based on track times and performance they'll never fully use. 08 STI > Evo X in terms of an everyday practicality and usage. The Evo X gets shittier mpg than the e9x m3. I know my next car will be a hatch of some sort.

Sounds like he's bitter that we never took his advice on which cars to build and never invited him to our really cool parties. Well, let's admit it, he just wasn't BMW material.
