Well, since the 550i and the 335i stock for stock are almost identical with a VERY slight edge to the 335i, and the 650i is lighter than the 550i I'd say they will be dead even and maybe a slight edge to the 650i.
I think you're a bit nuts to bet $500 on a race you are not even sure you can win and clearly have no experience drag racing either since you were asking how you should launch. BTW, ignore ANYONE who tells you to turn off the DSC completely and brake torque launch. They clearly have zero drag racing experience with this car either. That would only leave you spinning and you'd surely lose. Just turn off DTC (push button once quick time). Brake torque to about 1800 rpms and on the green, drop the hammer smoothly and quickly and release the brake at the same time. On a stock car, you'll get a bit of tire chirp and be off and running. But be prepared to lose if the 650i driver gets a good launch too. The V8 will probably pull a bit harder as speeds climb. Or you guys could do a 1st gear roll race from 15 mph and eliminate the launch. You'll be in boost good there and probably jump 1/2 CL and hold that lead until 100 or so then he might start to reel you in a bit. To be safe, drop a couple gallons race gas in your car to make 93-94 Octane mix. That'll give you another 5-6 rwhp on a stock 335i. Might be just enough to edge him out. Good Luck, but again $500 bet on such a closely matched up car was a big gamble on your part. |

I'll race a stock 650 for $500.

Why do you guys keep telling him to just buy a piggyback then race?
Don't you think the guy with the 650i is smart enough to KNOW that if his 335i has a piggyback that he'll most likely lose? The bet was stock vs stock! If the 335i driver puts in a piggyback and wastes him by like 4-5 CL's, and didn't tell the 650i driver, that would be cheating and cheap. If I was the 650i driver, I wouldn't pay up if someone clearly lied and cheated that way anyway. A bit of race gas is not cheating however, since the car is still STOCK, you are just taking advantage of what the STOCK ECU will do for you. However, if he asks if you are on 91 Octane and have race gas in and say "yes" then you are a cheater and liar too. Good luck. |

me too, especially if he was the one who ask for the bet first. a 650i owner may have plenty of $500s anyway :P.

It's not "living" with the lie, it's being "caught" in the lie and trying to get him to pay up if, and more likely WHEN, he suspects your car is modded.
Unless you sand bag the run and give just enough throttle to stay ahead of him by no more than a CL. And that can be hard to do on these new age stupid drive by wire throttles, a bit too little throttle and you'll lose the race anyway, a bit too much and he's going to suspect the mod. Better to just play fair and honest, or don't bet so much and/or just run for fun. |

Haha, it's funny how some people are trying to take the moral high ground in an illegal street race. That's just a notch above cheating someone out of a drug deal, in my opinion.
But anyway, if you had a tune (JBS2, SSTT, Procede, Xede) this would be a no brainer win for you unless you can't drive at all. Stock for stock it is a drivers race and you should have a slight edge. If you don't launch properly and he does, you will lose. If you don't mind risking $500, then that's completely on you.

Back when I street raced quite regularly, there was no such thing as "cheating". It was all about who got from point A to point B the fastest and I never tolerated excuses about "well you got nitrous" or "you have a big V8 and I only have a 4 cylinder". You entered the race, you agreed to a bet, and you lost. NOW PAY UP SUCKER!!!!!!!!

Wow, people in Georgia street race each other for money without even knowing what the car they are about to race has on it? That's retarded of them. |

If we did, I guess it's because of the better 93 Octane Gas...we just can't help ourselves! But seriously, most of the guys I know take it to the track.

The original question was can a 335i beat a 650i, then it was asked if stock, and he said, he's "all stock".
If it was any other way but stock vs stock, a vague question like, "can a 335i beat a 650i" would be like asking if a 10 year old Supra can beat a Ferrari F430. There is no point in asking that question unless you specify that each is modded and what the mods are. |

The OP is better of buying a JB2, win the race, payoff the JB2, and invite the looser for a beer and strippers with the remaining money.

But I'd think if he was willing to bet $500 he'd know at least a bit or two as to what the other car can do, and ask it was stock or not. But maybe he has $500 he feels he can waste no problems. There are people who go to Vegas and throw down $500 at a poker table who have little knowledge of the game either, I'm sure. |
