The release of Shark Edit is somewhat of a change in priorities for me. I'm 45, and I'm about to have a baby boy. No offense to everyone with cars, but as of Sept - my Son is the priority. I'm sure you all understand |

Jim, at some point you are going to have to feed us animals and fill in what you envision some of the programs available for flash via Shark Edit and Shark Injector might be like. I'm not sure why, but there seems an excess of 'satiable curtiosities' in spite of the numerous crocs in the great grey-green, greasy Limpopo here.
My vision, for purposes of a naîve start, is that you consider a moderate increase in power to be prudent for those of us with limited means and conservative respect for our beloved N54s. Say +60 hp and 70 ft/lbs. Perhaps a bit upstream of the rumored tii/ZHP output. In combination with tweaks to enhance cooling, we might expect our engines to last without major repairs for >120k miles. So for those contemplating the long wait for a SI, that's what lies at the end of the rainbow. Shark Edit is a different kettle of fish, with a broad menu and daily specials. The Shark Edit user can play endlessly in a similarly-minded shiver. And sons are a blast. Congrats!

LOL....honestly tiring to get a feeling were the compressors are not going to be happy in stock form + Shark flash. Hence, I don't trust any tuners but yourself of course.
Not a bad question when your product is released to tuners. Do I trust Vishnu running high boost to redline or a tuner with zero mechanical back ground. It is all great until the surgeon kills the 70,000 baby. It is hard to find a surgeon who is not a fraud. Orb |

LOL
At this point, I'm only discussing Shark EDIT - btw - the thread title would probably be more correct if it said "Sharkedit tuneR" - since it's a program that YOU tune - not a provided tune. (That might be a source of SOME of the confusion - that, and the fact that since I wouldn't say what I was announcing at BF '08 - everyone assumed it was a Shark Injector) A lot of other info on Shark Edit is in the FAQ at: http://www.bonnevillemotorwerks.com/sharkedt/SEFAQ.pdf if there are more unanswered questions - the best place to ask them is via email at sharkedt at bonnevillemotorwerks dot com. I'll do my best to answer them - and also include them in the FAQ |

My wife is expecting our first one in November, I don't think reality has quite hit me yet. It's kind of weird that you never feel like your ready to have one. Best Wishes! |

Not anytime soon
So in reading all these posts about what Jim C is planning to offer, a few conclusions I've reached.
1. Jim C is releasing a software editor that works with V80 and not V81 2. Jim C is not providing any tunes with the editor whatsoever at this time 3. We all will have to learn how to tune our cars using Jim C's editing software 4. If you don't want to learn how to tune, then you need to buy a tune from somebody who does want to learn or already knows how to 5. It's going to be a long time for any of this to be entirely plug n play like Procede, Dinan, etc. It's all dependent on: - Jim C releasing the software for sale and shipping products out - Somebody buying the editor and injector to develop a tune - Somebody or somebodies testing the tune - Somebody selling the resulting tune - Everybody else buying injector and installing the tune - All of us then confirming whether the tune consistently works, dyno graphs, flash vs piggy comparisons, etc. So in a nutshell, it's going to be a whiles and be ready to shell out some $$$ for the editor, tune, injector, and whatever else is needed. It's definitely not $299 that's for sure. Most important fact is that all this is dependent on Jim C actually releasing products for sale and shipping them out. How soon will Jim C ship out the editor and the injector we'll need to actually tune our cars, whether V80 or V81? Because until then, it's holding out on bringing our cars into the dealership for any service for fear of progman update and/or getting called out by BMW on our warranty or lack thereof. |

and OBD-II BMW's equipped with: MS41.1, MS41.2, MS42, MS43, MS45.0, MS45.1, MSS52, MSS54, MSS60, MSS65, M5.2, M5.2.1, ME7.2, ME9, MSV80, and MSD80 to name the current applications. Other applications will come as I add them. Or as 3rd parties add them. YOU could even write an add-on if you wanted too MSD81 has barely hit the dealers - I need to find an MSD81 equipped car in Utah - with a decent owner - order a spare DME for it - have the car and the DME taken into the dealer and flashed to the same I-Level and have the CAS programmed/synced - see the new DME start the car - then have the owners original DME returned to the vehicle. Then I can start analyzing that DME. Quote:
I already have a tune running in my 335i - and have for months (on and off - depending on whether my dealer has reflashed me AGAIN or not) I'm just not saying a thing about it. I'm not stubborn or anything - I just like to keep control over product releases Quote:
for those who want to go that route. Please understand that it really isn't that hard to tune the car if you have all of the needed info laid out before you. Quote:

The whole point of software tuning any car is working with the DME software (vs. fighting against it) to produce more power. If you create a tune that blows a turbo - it will CONSISTENTLY blow a turbo Good synopsis BTW. |

Great that you think about it . Who will know better than you how to tune the N54 using Shark Edit. When you would provide a tune everybody can be sure you used every function available for a good & reliable tune. Others will have to learn about the capabilities of Shark Edit and the MSD80 first, who knows how long this will take and how careful it will be done. Shark Edit will be as good as the maps tuners provide. My 2 cents. - Eugen |

I agree and no one is expecting that. I am simply saying people want the most power they can have. Whether it is 1000 rwhp or 400 rwhp, most still want the most possible.
