Esquire is typically a surname to a lawyer. Squire is a man of high social standing.

Historically they are similar in meaning of a young man entering knighthood.

Essentially the same historically speaking but in today's society they have different meanings.

We use it in a similar fashion in NZ too - but we are a British colony, not like you upstarts here.

I think outside the US they still are more closely tied to their historical meanings - I've never heard it used to refer to membership in this manner before. Esquire to us is a surname to anyone without a title, not just a lawyer (that's a US only thing). Squire is simply a shortening of Esquire, and have similar meanings. As mentioned above, squire is also used informally to refer to a peer or stranger ("excuse me squire" could be used in the same manner as "excuse me ma'am" or "excuse me sir" to be able to get past someone, although squire is generally male).

Upstarts! I do catch hell from them about my vernacular. Garage is one that I get made fun of a lot for. Completely different pronunciation. Also the first time I spoke of a fanny pack in front of one of my female mates, she was quite offended. I was corrected quickly and was told it was a bum bag.

Tell me about it - I work in the parking industry here in Texas, so I get shit about "garage" all the time. Fanny has an entirely different meaning to us than what it has here. Someone at work actually created a wiki page to translate between "Dino" and US so they can understand what I say. They've learned "Bob's your Uncle" and "useless as tits on a bull" (that's more of a Kiwi saying) and use them now too.

I use "Bob's your uncle" all the time! I've gotten to where I use cockney slang on occasion but have to be mindful of the company I'm in. Some people look at me as if I'm a nutter. Another favorite of mine is "useful as a chocolate teapot"

Or in the context of escorting a hot young woman around town.

"I will squire you about town."

Don't forget "throwing your toys out the pram" and "spanner in the works"!

Supposed to meet with this bumble girl tonight. She wants to FaceTime first so hopefully she doesn’t reject me before we even actually meet. I’m awkward as shit on the phone and FaceTime is basically just a fancy phone call.

Probably just wants to make sure you aren't like a 60 year old serial killer.

The dating sites/apps are littered with cunts just looking to waste your time, lie, etc. Bumble is an app where you cannot talk to them unless they message you first. #dontwasteyourtime

While I agree, I know a few guys who have actually had better luck on Bumble than any other site. I think the reason for this is that women aren't constantly hammered with messages and can choose who they interact with instead. One of my friends (female) was on another app (POF I think?) and she literally got 30 messages a day and each one said "hey" or "hi". She ended up just deleting it.

I'd be terrible at online dating. All of my humor is sarcastic and joking/teasing women. WTF do you say to someone you've never even seen before or talked to? At least in a store I can make a joke at what she is looking at or if we end up in the same aisle twice.

This is why online interactions will never replace face to face, and why if you do have a face to face interaction with a girl you have all the online guys beat who messaged her.

Bumble was the worst app for me. Right there with Coffee Meets Bagel. Make no mistake, they are inundated with matches on Bumble. They are just screening their Brad Pitt/sugar daddy contestants.

OMG men said Hi? Wow, they are terrible people! Does she ignore the cashier that says hi? Or perhaps tells a police officer to screw off if they said hello.

She's another diva type. "I'm too good to reply to "hi" How dare you not send me a fucking novel." Get over yourselves, people!

Meanwhile, she's not messaging anyone first or maybe 2 or 3 messages a week come from her first...
