Light weight for sport cars are history. The new tread for BMW is build it as heavy as it can. The 2025 BMW hybrid M5 will weight 5368 lbs. Adding mass to the cars will affects everything negatively from handling to braking.....

At what point will BMW think they are getting stupid !!!

America's EV boom goes bust! Lithium and nickel producers begin mass layoffs and pause multi-billion-dollar projects as US says no to electric car push.

Car buyers are still reluctant to trade in their gas-guzzling vehicle for an EV over the high price tag and concerns about their ability to easily charge the vehicle.

The waning interest in EVs has caused the price of lithium to dropped by 90 percent since January of last year.

Were you born with no sense or humor or irony or does that come no charge when you buy a EV?
Note: For the tax money I am paying to support the EV addiction, I'm due some tongue-in-cheek posts.

You Can Now Find Used Tesla Model S Plaids For Around $60,000
Feb 20, 2024
Used Tesla Model S Plaids are quickly lowering in price. Today, used examples are in the $60,000 range with relatively low miles. The Model S Plaid cost $131,440 in 2021, so buyers can find these sedans for nearly half their original prices. But here's the kicker: a 2024 Tesla Model S Plaid now starts at $91,630. So, for those who bought one in 2021, their cars instantly became worth $39,810 less to savvy buyers. Add luxury sedan depreciation into the mix, and Model S Plaids are going for nowhere near what they were going for.
The Plaid's most notable feature isn't its range; instead, it's its raw power. The electric five-seater makes 1,020 horsepower and can accelerate from zero to sixty in the low 2-second range.

gblansten you can buy two and cost average.

Under the topic of how bad do you have to suck at your job to get fired these days?
GM Wants To Go EV-Only By 2035. Its CEO Says The Push Will ‘Be Guided By The Consumer’
2024 is “the year of execution” for GM, CEO Marry Barra said.
But the push for more EVs might be hindered by what customers want. DUH
After a disappointing 2023 in terms of production volume on the EV front, GM’s head honcho went on record saying that 2024 is “the year of execution” for Detroid-based automaker. The creator of the discontinued Chevy Bolt EV and ultra-luxury Cadillac Celestiq has to do everything it can to get those delivery numbers up and the prices of cars down.
https://insideevs.com/news/708951/gm...-the-consumer/

In a completely unrelated article:
GM Stock Has Suffered During Mary Barra’s 9 Years as CEO
Barra became CEO of the company nearly a decade ago in January 2014 and since then, General Motors (Ticker GM) stock has dropped 25%. The stock even has a slightly negative annualized return including reinvested dividends.
Barra, 61, has been well paid over her tenure with total compensation of about $29 million in both 2021 and 2022,
One big investor that has been getting out of GM in recent quarters is Berkshire Hathaway (BRK/A) which held 22 million shares worth about $600 million at the end of the second quarter, down from a peak of over 50 million shares.

An update from my friend who just bought the Tesla model Y. I will see how long his honeymoon phase last

The closest charging stations are 2 km from his office and one of them is not working. The charging stations only operate Monday to Friday. Weekend, you are out of luck. He need to walk 20 mins each way to and from work multi times during his office hour to drop off his car, go to work, walk back to the charging station and pick up the car when his car charge up to 80 percent.

I ask him why you are not charging your car at home. He told me he doesn't want to spend the $$$$ amount of money to put in the quick charging system at home.

He is telling me at different locations, different time, the charging rates change too.

At the end of the day, are you really saving money

I truly wish the best outcomes he can/will get from his EV if there is any It is what it is.

Total unrelate to this topic. It is just for a laugh. I saw a poll a while back asking ppl how often they will take a shower. A guy reply, I only take a shower once a week because I think this is my best decision for my skin health. Then he continuous with his comment like "for some reasons, I only have a few friends"

This is another example of someone choosing an EV too quickly without doing the homework.

We have seen this before and it went no where. but time will tell. It should come as no surprise that this is a government program.
Completion of Charging in 5 minutes? Hyundai Motor to Develop Detachable Battery for Electric Vehicle
02/21/2024
On the 16th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport launched the Mobility Innovation Committee. It proposed measures to ease regulations that could suggest a new direction for the South Korean mobility industry. A detachable electric vehicle model that replaces the electric vehicle battery with a fully charged battery is scheduled to be developed. Existing electric vehicles take about 4-7 hours for a standard charge and about 20-40 minutes for a fast charge. However, with new removable batteries, A fully charged battery can be replaced in about 5 minutes. This is expected to impact the spread of electric vehicles significantly.
There are also doubts as to whether the detachable will be successful. DUH
They cited shortening the charging time as the biggest advantage. It is believed that if a simpler and more convenient method of battery replacement is introduced, it will have a greater impact on the expansion of electric vehicle distribution and relevant market formation.

Detachable battery, that's interesting. Only things are the weight, detach/anchor points, plugging in or a new type of smaller lipo but that would be like a compacted concentrate C4 box.

The price per kilowatt-hour in urban Hawaii came to 42.8 cents in January, followed by San Francisco at 41.2 cents. San Diego had the third-highest average price at 40.1 cents per kilowatt-hour.
How can this be? We've been told sustainable energy is less expensive than nuclear and better for mother earth. And doesn't every house in Cali have solar that feeds back to the grid? I thought Californians got paid from the utility company for their solar juice.
