Two ways to look at it is easiest.

Linear
1) single throttle position. Rpm engine speed increasing or decreasing.

Load requested stays constant even as revs rise. Will feel as constant acceleration as revs rise (excluding frictional and aerodynamics and .5 m v square effects)

2) throttle position increased or decreased for a given rpm.

Load requested change matches change in throttle in linear fashion for all speeds. Wool probably feel like your foot is more connected to throttle valves (know they don't exist)

Stock
1) single throttle position. Rpm speed increasing or decreasing

Load requested high at low rpm, tails off as rpm raises.

Gives impression of immediate boost to almost obtain a requested rpm.
torque then tails off as requested rpm reached. More throttle needed to maintain load as speed rises.

2) throttle position increasing or decreasing for a given rpm.

Load requested slow to respond initially, peaks rapidly, then flattens out again.

Feels that low request artificially surpressed to aid smooth driving. mid throttle is boosted, last throttle position fine tunes somewhere around maximum.

and um..... Safe to Run S2+ AGG. Based on NYC having 93 octane. I am sure you will like ST.
Also try the E30 MAPs, you will never go back. Do you have access to E85 pump? ( http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=738596 )

always log to be sure, log after a few WOT to ensure the car has adapted all the way.

Do I have a problem with 1st and 4th Cylinder since timing is being pulled at WOT, other cylinders pull timing but in certain instances and under normal driving conditions. I'm Running Stage1_ST_Sport map on my 335i e92 Stick just with K&N Drop In filter on 93 Octane. Just installed it 2nd day 2nd drive about 10miles long. I didn't notice any hesitation in acceleration and I also had DTC ON and TCS ON don't know if it matters or not. Car year 2008 and has 26K miles on it.

Nothing sticking out as a problem. Having one or two cylinders making 3.xx corrections isn't a big deal. Log looks pretty good.


Just for future reference, be SURE to completely disable DTC and DSC or you may occasionally see some timing or boost issues in logs that aren't really there.

Thanks Ænema, I was looking at the 15 min logs and I see all zeros across other WOTs only see one other timing pull other than the one posted, so I guess it's good. I'm new to this, so another question, would a custom tune/map eliminate most of the timing pulls, or at least that's the idea correct?

Well, yeah that should ideally be what happens. Getting the most power available while being as safe as possible. A PROtune is never a bad idea, provided it is by a reputbale tuner that has experience with the N54.

Hey. COBB. with these new guys logging timing correction. Before they start pulling plugs and injectors did you fix the bug where the wrong cylinders are reported in the wrong columns? Which turned out to be wrong, corrections or total timing?

Reminder: timing cylinder A + correction cylinder B = total timing cylinder A or B. I don't recall the actual cylinders impacted.

Don't do WOT in third on cold or slippery road with DTC disabled. I did and it wasn't pretty when the tryes lit up at 4k rpm or thereabouts. Correct though that traction control is achieved through timing corrections so no point logging those.

well you shouldn't do any logging on a unsafe road/conditions. 3rd Gear log you will get real close to 100 mph, easily get to 110-120 MPH if you pull in 4th for a bit. Also try to find a long flat stretch of road, mitigate any slip of traction.

Safety first. If the conditions don't permit a pull in 3rd gear with DTC off then you shouldn't be trying to log anyway.

Could someone explain how much power each map makes in sequential order? I saw that Cobb has released their new Stage 1+FMIC map for drive, sport, and aggressive.

I am guessing that the order of power assuming the same car is as follows:

Stage 1 Drive
Stage 1+FMIC Drive
Stage 1 Sport
Stage 1+FMIC Sport
Stage 1 Aggressive
Stage 1+FMIC Aggressive
Stage 2 Drive
Stage 2+FMIC Drive
Stage 2 Sport
Stage 2+FMIC Sport
Stage 2 Aggressive
Stage 2+FMIC Aggressive

Does this make sense?

No, from weakest to strongest (imo maybe some think stg2>1+) within each map grouping it ranges from drive-sport-aggressive

Stg1
Stg2
Stg1+
Stg2+
E30

Power will depend on dyno, STG2+agg will be somewhere in the 380whp area depending on a variety of factors. Ive never liked the "aggressive" nomenclature, in reality none of the ots maps are all that aggressive for a healthy car with how strong they taper up top. E30 and race maps push fairly hard though.

I have heard that stage 1+fmic aggressive is stronger than stage 2 , so I would say that stage 1 +fmic agg. is stronger than stage 2 drive and sport.

Here is a good example of S1. Using 20% E85 (3 gallons) for the Agg. Maps due to shitty 91. Results may very, per Virtual Dyno, AT

Finally will install Cobb tomm. Like the procede, does Cobb need to pass a certain oil temp to start boosting?

I'll be installing stage 2+ aggressive.

Can I leave my DP fix in?

No, the OTS maps do not limit boost when cold.

You can leave the DP fix in, but I would advise against it. There have been a few people have weird fuel trim issues that disappear when the DP fix is removed.
