I have found that, on a manual 330i, if you throw your car into neutral and try to shut the car off (...while still in motion), the vehicle will not shut off. You have to come to a complete stop.

edit: In my example, still in motion means 1 or 2 mph, slightly coasting (..a'la, into a parking space), etc.
Actually it does shut off the car. It's like it goes into Aux mode meaning engine is off electronics are still on.

Not on my '06 330i. It's as if the Start button is inactive until the car comes to a complete stop.

I tried the other "keyless" trick yesterday..........and it worked, but I had to push the stop button twice to turn off the car. The first button press stopped the engine, but the radio, lights, etc. stayed on. I had to push the button another time to completely turn everything off.
It probably works like CA when you turn off. If you hold the off button for a few extra seconds it turns everything off with one push.

You have to hold in the START button for 3-4 seconds if you want to shut off the engine while the car is moving. Just remember that the power steering also loses pressure after some time and you will have difficulty steering.....

Assume general disclaimer to these emails. At own risk!

ok.....I can see the natural conclusion to the direction of this thread, so I'll skip to the last chapter of the book....

If you drive your 3 series into a brick wall at 120mph, the airbags go off, but you still die.

that will depend on the size of that brick wall.
and which angle you hit it from.
at 120 mph, i think you might be able to go through it.
somebody give it a shot.

sorry to bring up an old thread but did anyone notice that when you listen to music when the car is powered on but not started its much louder than if its turned on completely and your driving? i was just wondering why it was like that and maybe its something to do with not using too much of the battery... anyone know for sure?

My guess is.. it just SEEMS louder since you don't have the regular loud noises that you are accustomed to while driving.. such as exhaust, tire noise, bumps, tire noise, brakes squealing, tire noise...

it reallys sounds like the car gives less output to the speakers when the engine is on compared to off.. the bass is so much more noticeable when the car is not started up. anyone confirm this?

Another Cool find for Microsoft Freaks! & Lovers:

All iDrive System are based on Microsoft Windows CE version 3.5, it was a shock when I new this, yet this is another milestone for Microsoft.

This announcement comes shortly after Microsofts Automotive Business Unit launched Windows CE for Automotive v3.5, the newest version of its telematics software platform based on Windows CE, and announced an end-to-end solution to enable the auto industry to cost-effectively implement and maintain advanced automotive telematics.

Regards;
