Ray - most community sites have local advertisers that do display ads. The great thing is that they track performance, such as how many clicks, how many times it was seen, and even what pages it was seen on. There are some that even track where they go after they reach your site.

Thus far, we have targeted geography and age groups, but wonder if we are heading in the right direction. A bulk of my business arrives from word-of-mouth, and, correct me if I am wrong, I am guessing that those who would accept advertising are those that fall in the "general" automotive category. |

-previous traffic derrived from random locations through search engines -more recent traffic comes from local areas, normally from direct input of domain name. Solution: I am having the site redesigned to cater to the local traffic as opposed to a standard shopping cart based site. The awareness of a brick and morter may add a sense of security to consumers. |

Not necessarily just automotive category. You can pick which areas you would like to have your ads up on. Of course the more relevant the page/channel the better the results. For example, on Yahoo, they have a local section that you can target at that will hit the Bay Area. I think you're doing all right from what i hear. Targeted ads are where you want to be since you're local to the bay area. But it really depends where you want to take the company and what message you want to get to consumers. Do you want to just cater to the tuning enthusiasts or want to do a full service shop for normal people as well. May i ask what sites you've run on so far? |

I would love to see that aspect improve, but really wonder how effective online advertising will be. In that retrospect, I want everyone in the area to realize what services we have to offer. I want everyone to recognize our services so they can refer their friends and family. |
