god if I had the funds I woulda got that instead of the 40d fuck maybe I'll just let you do the pix. I'll probably just get the 2.8L, don't think I need to spend $600 extra on IS but I want the faster lens |

hey BTW maybe you can help me out. I'm torn between the 16-35mm 2.8L and the 24-70mm 2.8L I want the fast lens cuz I shoot a lot of live concerts. The 24-70 seems like the most versitile because of the range but I'm afraid that 24mm isn't going to be wide enough on a crop body for when I'm closer to the stage (which I usually am). 16-35 sounds great in that aspect but then I get cut off at 35. I do have a 28-135 IS and a 50mm 1.8 - both not L's though (and hopefully that 70-200 2.8 L soon) but I'm just worried the big gap between 35 and 70mm will hurt even with the 50mm prime. help ![]() |

honestly I came to the same question, with a ff body I went with the 24-70 because I didnt have to worry about the crop...but I can see how it would be a rather limiting range with a crop body.
The 16-35 is a great lens, but ive heard mixed reviews honestly. If you are doing live concerts, the speed is obviously going to be necessary, so a 2.8 or better is a must. I guess for the 40D I would go with the 16-35 because 1) its infinitely lighter (the 24-70 is the "brick"..and well named), 2) wider which is nice for closeups on the other hand, you can shoot amazing concert shots with a 70-200 f 2.8 L, and not need to get as close...so I guess the question is, are you really wanting the wide angle effect (do you HAVE to be so close when you shoot), or are you alright with being a bit farther out when you shoot and using the 70-200. If you are going to shoot close, the 16-35 will suit you well as its effective focal length comes out to 24~50, and then youll have the 105-~300 with the other lens.... I guess that gap from 50-105 is a decent one, Id say a lot of shots are done in that range... my personal choice was the 24-70 because I think I just want to get a wide angle prime lens instead of the 16-35 (saving up...)...the 24-70 is an amazing day to day lens, and its decently wide if you have a 50mm prime, get the 16-35 and I doubt youll miss the middle range as a 50mm will suit you well...those incremental ranges in the middle will generally all be able to be shot with a 50. If you didnt have the 50mm prime, id get the 24-70

sweet thanks for the advise man. I think I kinda new you'd tell me that... I kinda felt the same way all along just needed to hear someone who knows what they are talking about say the same thing to help ease my mind.... spending $1000's of dollars on glass is a new thing for me so I wanna make sure I do the right thing the 1st time around.
Now I have to choose do I get both those L lenses or just get 1 and get new rims, and save up for the other one later. UGH! |

Thats a painful choice, I have to decide whether I'm insane for getting the helix fmic and considering the ar dps as well...after that glass purchase...its a problem

definitely bringin the cam gear to the meet, prob going to the city a little early to set up with seth, all are welcome
yes, did in fact purchase @ a little earlier than 5 I think...but I work overnight, so its really like that was 7pm for me woot... got the borla catback (single muffler dual tip) with secondary delete pipes and 4" dimisa tips... thinking about whether or not to get catless dps now....but I'm worried about the smell... helix fmic coming in a bit, in on the group buy as well...its been quite an impulse night im shooting for stage 3 maps by april/whenever fmic install would be i guess...

I'm kind of in the same boat, except I have the 2nd cat delete and a dual Magnaflow muffler setup with 4" tips. I am more worried about the sound because it is loud already. ![]() |
