We did some testing this weekend with our FMIC, Attache, intake, and stock valves. You definately need to replace the stock bypass valves at this point in modification. When we punched the "go pedal" the turbos would spool up and you can hear the bypass valves pop open twice and a drop in power (hesitation) that went with it. When we switched in our BOVs the problem disappeared.

You have no idea how anxious I am to get the FMIC and intake in. Plus that damn exhaust keeps giving me the evil eye for not installing it yet. BOV's too huh.. nice.

1/ i have read that the n54 runs better on DVs as opposed to bovs...comment?
2/i do not know much about bovs, except that they work in theory similar to dvs, can u explain the difference??
3/ i heard that some people like the "noise" of a bov...i am not really into loud. can u try to explain what type of sound it is, and how loud it is??

4/ so if someone wanted your tune, and the helix is too strong for the stock dvs, they could just buy
the dv upgrade now available correct?

thanks

The N54 is utilizes a speed density method of engine control vs. Mass Air Flow (MAF) which meters the amount of air that enters the system. Wit speed density Blow Off Valves (BOV) won't impact the cars ability to funtion properly. On MAF cars the air is metered, therefore if the air leaves the system via BOV then the car will suddenly run rich. That is why MAF cars have to use ByPass Valves (BPV). The air is recirculated back into the intake tract afer the MAF meter.

Typically with BOVs the more boost you run the louder they are. It is a matter of opinion, some like it and others don't. I wouldn't say our BOVs are excessively loud and annoying.

1) N54 utilises diverter valves recirculating the vented air to the intake. DVs have some really minor advantages over BOVs but nothing really crutial, so the preference between BOV and DV is really just a personal opinion. I prefer DV, imo the BOV's Whushhhhhhhhhhhh fits japan cars better, not this saloon gentle(wo)man, but whatever. Dont start to argue on that, not necessary.
2) the only difference between the two is that BOV releases air to the atmosphere (not to the intake) and when it does so, it makes the Fast&Furious-like WHUSSSHHHHH sound, what is "really kewl". The technological differences U can find by searching this forum, they were discussed multiple times since Jan 2007 (or so).
3) for the sound search for BOV on youtube. I am also more of a fan of silent performance, that's why I choose Forge DV over any BOV (nuthing against Helix, of course )
4) correct. Any DV upgrade will do, BOV or not, if those replacement valves are designed correctly. Some of them have proven to be wrong, but I didnt pay too much attention to BOVs and the new Forge DV is OK.

Helloooooooo MPG!!!!!

Ok, so tonight the additional harness was installed into my piggyback. What this harness now taps into (on top of everything else the Attache already tapes into) is the Throttle Position Sensor and the Air Intake Temp. What this does now is get rid of any physical idea in the body that theres a tune in the car. It drives more OEM than OEM did. Theres no jerkiness when leaving a stop. Theres no full boost at half throttle applications. Theres just smooth accelerating from idle to redline.

I saw mid 20's on my mpg indicator when I parked in my driveway from the ride home tonight. I was so excited as its now performing the way it should in the fuel delivery area. You can drive the car at part throttle keeping it in vacuum all the way to redline and you could bet people that they couldnt feel any turbos in the car. Then you can mash the throttle when you want to and throw those people into the backseat. Its really glorious at how much control you now have over the turbos in terms of how you want them and mostly when you want them.

AFAIK, this is the final update for the Attache. I can concur that this is what the final product should feel like. I dont know anyone that will not be happy with this upgrade.

My final words. Instead of putting blinders on and looking at how much peak power and torque you can make, think about everything else. Price, drivability and real world dynamics. You and I will never be on a racetrack or at WOT 90% of the time so why have a tune expecting 99% all the time with less than 1% reserved for daily driving? This tune gives you the high power numbers anyone could ask for, but keeps it in reserve if you dont want it and want to treat the car as if it was stock. The Attache is like the "Sneaky Petes" of the piggy backs.

Can you comment on how hard the install is, and what exactly "mash the throttle" means? Does that mean depress the throttle more than 50%?

Excellent question. The difficulty grade of the install depends on your comfort level of being able to look at a picture and basically connect colored and numbered wires to their respective counterparts. If you look at it and think "wow, theres a lot of wires here, I want to sit back and cry thinking about how I have to hook these up" then you wont really get anywhere and youll say that its a hard install. If you look at the chart and the wires and think "Wow, theres a lot of wires, but this chart puts it all in perspective and its really hard for me to put the wrong wires in the wrong slot based on this" then you should be done in a short while and driving off happy into the sunset.

Yes, mash the throttle means more than 50%.

What about a Procede 6MT vs Attache 6MT

Not fair to compare the gear ratio on that Procede vs Helix vid.

As far as I know giac does make strong software!! However, the zero availability of the Helix Attache is getting gay!

Fuck the Attache!

The other change and the reason for tapping into the AIT line is the Attache now has a high AIT boost taper tuned into it. The factory dme will increase boost as AITs rise trying to keep the airflow somewhat constant, this is all well and good when its doing this from 8psi to 10 psi depending on temperature. Not so good when its rising from 13-16+ psi as the intercooler starts to heat soak after a few wide open throttle runs >leading to increased boost pressure<and or>leading to increased heat>leading to DTC/CE Lights. We have tuned in a nice taper to stop/slow this process down in an attempt to maintain the pretuned MAXIMUM boost levels of 14 psi on the 93 octane map and 12.5-13 psi on the 91 Octane maps.
