Need some guidance...
long story short, nonsense with piston rings -> down on power since oil is finding it's way into my chambers when most of my boost is being produced -> sad boi. Have a lead on a 61k mile motor up in Dallas. easy 5 hour drive. Will upgrade the peripheral items so to speak.. clutch flywheel etc. ensure gaskets are worthy too. But its from an automatic... Gurus in here: Do I need to mess with anything before dropping it in? Surprisingly enough, it is an OG 330i engine just like mine. Metallic colored beauty cover and all. 1500 (obo as per ad) beats tearing down what I got. Thanks fam. -Tim

Will you be doing a teardown and inspection? Would be valuable for science!

Were you consuming a lot of oil before the SC? Did you run a compression test on the motor? How many miles on it?

Seattlesquash me thinks it's just because my engine is old - I'm sure the tune is fine
desertman123 I thought of the same thing in regards to the radiator- thanks for your input my dude. I'd love to tear down the original to see what's good. I've taken real good care of this engine - would love to reuse it! tried reaching out to that UK based shop to see if they could recreate that gnarly engine in that 1er that was posted about a while back. I want to reach out to the (previous/ original) owner to see if he has a build sheet with all the lovely details. Biginboca I just moved back to Texas - been unpacking and trying to get my life together ![]() Only things I got done was the well needed diff flush and replaced the rear left window regulator This oil burn issue existed prior to the blower as well. Imagine how the Disa transition dies off at the top end, but earlier (around 5.5k). Strange thing is that sometimes I can manage to get through the power band successfully without that die off in power. Dont know how I do it.. I think if I make it a steady climb and not completely flooring it... but where's the fun in that? I finally got those nice speed limits out here on the edge of town I worry about the health of the replacement ... but I'd feel like a fool to pass up that engine for the cost. Maybe I can try to do an on the fly compression test and see if we are good or not

Man it must be nice moving somewhere where you won't get tossed in jail for giving us a WOT throttle video ![]() But RIP curvy roads (not sure if TX has many - lord knows FL doesn't)

Figured I'd go with the current standard before I pull the trigger on the purchase... aside from what I've found on Ebay, found this company that will leak down test, compression test, and deep clean the engine and send it for 1700 (for a 76k mile) or 2900 (for a 33k mile). But me thinks the ones he has in the system are not what I'm looking for. He wanted to tell me that it was what I was looking for because his "BMW specialist " said it was the revision ~ mind you the engine said it was produced in like may of 08, ppppffft.

I am looking right meow...
I wonder if I'd have any issues with running the n52k verse another n52... I wonder if the tune would act up. doesnt appear to have that many differences. But.. Idk if theres any newer or different sensors in it that would cause issues.

OK! Been skimming throughout the day.
Can someone confirm: N52N is the variant that came with the modified head and nothing more? N52K: (IIRC ... ) had some more upgrades including the CCV system being modified/strengthened? hassmaschine if I went with the N52K and all of its revisions, would I run into issues with my tune from Bob? https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1504884

Not Hass....he knows infinitely more than I do about this platform. But with an engine swap would you also have to swap the DME? If so, then I'm sure Bob would need an upload from the new one as a place to start. I know that through all of the tuning I have had from him, he has specifically stated that if I ever had a software change made by the Dealer, I would have to perform another upload to send to him to "rebuild upon" what I currently have done.

If you dig through Realoem and look at the engine Internals you can find the differences. I don't think you will run into any major snags using the newer motor. |

IIRC the main difference is the MAF and maybe the throttle. The PCV system is definitely different.
But if you just swap over everything (harness, sensors) from your original engine, you should be fine. You don't need to and cannot swap DMEs. Most sensors are the same, get familiar with looking up parts in the ETK (aka realoem.com etc). |
