You wouldn't be proving a point to me because until your post I had no disagreement with you. You would be proving a point to all your customers that have come back mad at you. That was the "problem" that you were seeking to address, correct? My point is that every customer here has been on the receiving end of "fake" emotions (including anger) from a salesmen. Wouldn't it be droll if each and every customer so inconvenienced were to make a post about it? Since playing with the customer's emotions is an integral part of the business you make a living in, what is your real problem? Is it informed consumers?

The point is that if you have a problem with specific people lying, then address it directly. We are smart people. If people are lying and are called on it publicly we can decide for ourselves if the problem is rampant enough to doubt everyone or not. If you're not willing to do that then why post?

Relax, man. I was just trying to set the record straight.
No man, you didn't try to set the record straight. You have way to much incentive ("making a living") for anyone to believe that your allusions to lying here are anything close to "setting the record straight". What you are trying to do is called "having your cake and eating it too". Because you may (or may not) have customers that are lairs you think it reasonable for the people reading this to believe everyone posting good prices is a liar. As you say, you're "only trying to make a living". You even said why you "set the record strait" and it was because your customers were coming back mad at you (ie. this thread is an inconvenience). Calling your post "just setting the record straight" now that you've been called on it isn't the truth and any dumb fool can see that. You posted to stop an inconvenience that was bothering you while you were making a living. Well, I can see where sharing of price information is an inconvenience and it would certainly be bothering you while you are trying to make a living but that statement could be true even if every price posted here were true.

Personally, I found this thread incredibly useful. I hope people here continue to believe in it and continue to post price information and push for the best deal possible. I also hope there is no lying but even if there is I would rather push too hard for a lower than market price than settle high for a price above market.

335xi lease in CT

335xi priced with options at 47,100 MSRP.
Lease of 36 months/12K miles with 3000 down (600 sec. deposit) and 580 p.m.
Location - CT

Its not just the price off the MSRP that is important. You could get your car at 'invoice' and then pay twice as much for other miscellaneous fees.

I've attached a spreadsheet that was very useful to me during my research.

Good luck!

is this a bad deal? 2007 335i 4 door sedan

Is this a bad deal on a 2007 335i 4 door sedan.

I leased one last year on 2007. I am located in California, San Francisco

Window Price was $48,000
Price I had to pay was $45,000. Made them minus $3000.
Down Payment: $6000 ( yes I know if anything happens the money is gone)
Monthly Payments: $477.01 not including tax ($517.56 with tax california 8.25%)
Residual Value: $29862.00 (dont know what this is just reading my receipt paper)
$2940.40 is the estimated official fees and taxes.

Let me know if I got ripped off. Thanks

In my opinion that sounds like a fair deal.. Don't always believe what friends and other people tell you what they got for a car deal. So many times I have had customers come in to the dealership and say that their friend bought a car here last month and they got XXXX deal. When we look back at their friends deal it never matches with what they think or were told. I don't think that the friend purposely fibbed but they typically leave out valuable information like (down payment, payment plus tax, positive and negative trade equity, term, rate and others).

After some years in this business (and I have said this before) people always like to claim that they pay more for their house and less for their car. Haven't we all done this in one way shape or form?

Do your homework, a little shopping and feel good when you drive your new car. It doesn't do any good to look back. Today shopping on the internet is the best way to achieve a good deal. After doing this you will find out what these cars are going for in your market .

So I'm not a dealer or anything. I just bought an '06 325xi and this topic caught my eye. This is also my first post.. yay!

What I learned in the past with buying a vehicle is that the market changes daily! A good deal today is a horrible deal tomorrow. There are too many variables. Basically, like beefybmer said.... if you are comfortable with your deal and you love your car... what difference does it make that you save a few bucks a month? I personally enjoyed the experience I had at Freehold BMW and thought my sales person was a pretty stand up guy. I didn't feel pressured in any way and he didn't treat me like some low-life because I wear jeans and a t-shirt every day and walked in there the same way to buy my car. He took me very seriously and treated me with the respect a customer deserves!

Anyway, here is my deal:

2006 325xi
18,587 miles
Single owner (CARFAX Guarantee)
Heated seats
Steptronic (not sure if this is standard)
Sat Prep
$28,994 sticker
$28,000 negotiated
$8,600 down (I'm financing... incl. my trade-in)
4.9% APR x 60mos. = $397/mo including all taxes and fees

Exact car is listed here:

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...paId=259873932

I don't know if I got the best deal or not. I was happy with the price he gave me and the APR on the financing through BMW (I could probably get that at any dealer). I really don't care if I could have shaved another $500 off.. they were a pleasure to deal with and I feel really good about the entire process. I went back and forth between 2 cars over the past week.. they even detailed both of them for me every time I went back and forth.

The lack of stress is worth it to me!

That's the price you would have to pay at the end of the 3 years to keep the car. It is actually an estimate of the vehicles worth at the end of the lease. It may or may not reflect reality.

I've never leased a car.. I've always financed. I have a hard time putting money down on a lease since you almost never get any of it back.

Except the money you don't put down on a lease never comes back AND is subject to money factor/finance charges. IMHO, the advantage to leasing is that the dealer assumes the risk that the car will hold its value; if it doesn't, you can walk away...if it does, you can buy and flip the car to make a profit. The car will depreciate whether you lease or finance, so you're out the money you pay during your use no matter what.

AZTEC,

What is the invoice price?
Are you leasing or buying?
If leasing, what's the quoted money factor?
Term, and mileage?

Then I will let you know.

Invoice price without MACO or Training fee ($180) is $45,210.

I"m thinking of buying, 18k down and get 3.9% finance on the rest. If I lease, MF of 0.0022 but i'm leaning more towards buying. I drive around 18k miles per year so buying makes more sense I believe.

Aztec,

Thanks for clearing that up.

Looks like a great price on the car, but could be super hot if you could negotiate 2-300 over invoice (yes it is possible). Looks like you have 5-600 over invoice. Tell them knock off 300 just for shits and giggles if getting a super hot deal really is important to you. 600 over invoice is still awesome though. Since you are buying, they know they are making money on the loan. (Hidden origination/fees/docs). Seriously, you could even pin dealerships against one another. A buddy of mine ended up getting his car for slightly under invoice after pinning two local dealerships together. Your down payment speaks for itself too. That means business. If you can pin two local dealerships together then you win.

It is obviously better for you to buy because of your miles situation but also because the mf is high! Ouch, when I got my 335, I got mine at .00175. Crazy huh? That was the buy rate back in August, .00175! Your miles situation though is much more important.

Looks like you're set. Oh, and ask them to throw in some tints, bmw polo, and key chain. Sounds like being a cheap ass but really ask them to toss it in, Lols!

Hadi,

Thanks for your response. If I add the MACO fee of $400 and Training Fee of $180 then the invoice price jumps to $45,790 which is only $90 dollars than what I'm paying. Should I not add the Maco fee and Training fee? I tried negotiating the price even further down but was unsuccessful dealer said they would lose money.

Aztec,

From what I know, MACO and Training fees should come at the end of the day. I did not know it was calculated into the invoice price but thought it comes later in the documentation process when signing for the loan.

There's only one way to find out, call another dealership, or two. or three! I mean, if you're getting so close to invoice it may be the time to just pull the trigger and take delivery of your new baby. If this dealer is cool and you like working with him, this seems like a great deal. Take delivery and ask for some goodies. You're set. You're car is waiting for you and I think you're deal is as sweet as can be.

Unless you were an employee that is. On another note, if this guy is willing to give you this deal, if you can wait a couple months, order one, he will most likely honor the deal on a special order! Make it the color combo you want. I will tell you now if I was going to put down this kind of cash money I'm getting a custom order from Germany. If you are in love with this one at the dealership then ok, but think about ordering your own custom color options with leather, exterior, and options. 18K down? Damn, you're in the drivers seat to build the ultimate vehicle. ok oops, I just noticed your avatar says ON ORDER. LOL. I think you're pretty much set bro. Get a nice polo though!

What do you say?

Earlier this week I placed an order for a 2008 335i. My first BMW, I'm very excited!! The specs:

Deep green metallic paint
Beige leather interior
Automatic transmission
Poplar wood trim
Heated seats
Satellite radio
iPod/USB adapter

MSRP for this particular configuration is $44,370. The invoice price, including destination, MACO, and training/service fees came to $41,315. I am paying $42,315 (got 3.9% financing). The salesman included floor mats.

The dealer is giving me $16,000 for my trade-in, a 2006 VW Passat 2.0T sedan (minus approx. $12,000 that I still owe on it, comes to $4000 trade-in credit). The KBB value is $14,165.

Although I signed a paper agreeing to the trade-in figure they quoted me, I have put no money down yet; that will come when my car arrives. Apparently I am still free to cancel the order, since the car would just sit on their lot until someone else buys it.

Any thoughts?

WOW, Nice on your trade. I have never seen that and it is not too often people score out of their trades. Nice job brother! Take that 4k with a smile!

Anyways, try to get 300-500 over invoice if you're buying! period!

Did you lease or finance?

Here's the deal I'm going to lay on the table soon, how does this sound? Does it look like there are any fees I'm forgetting? Any calculations incorrect?

e90 328xi:
Term - 24 months (12k miles)
MSRP - $37325
Invoice - $34445
Cap Cost - $34945 (500 over invoice)
Residual Percent - 73%
April MF buy rate - 0.00175
New lease addition - 0.00015
Base Money Factor - 0.00190
Residual Value - $27247.25
Multiple security deposits - 7 (0.00007 * 7 = 0.00049)
Adjusted Money Factor - 0.00141

Depreciation equation:
(((Cap Cost - Down Payment) - Residual) / Term)
(((34945 - 0) - 27247.25) / 24) = $320.74

Monthly Interest equation:
((Cap Cost + Residual Value) * Money Factor)
((34945 + 27247.25) * 0.00141) = $87.69

Tax equation:
((Depreciation + Monthly Interest) * 0.09)
((320.74 + 87.69) * 0.09) = $36.76

Total Monthly Payment: $445.19

Total Cost of the Lease: 445.19 * 24 = $10684.55

Total Cash Due (First Monthly payment, Fees, Zero Down, Max MSD) = $4400*

* $3150 returned at lease end due to MSD
