Brian,
US tobacco manufacturers use a set of tobacco additives which are highly protected company secrets. Those additives are used primarily during the curing process of the tobacco leaves. Some of those additives however are added as a "fertilizer" while the tobacco plants are growing. The purpose of those additives is to increase the initial spike effect from the first few draws of a lit cigarette. The idea behind it is that it makes cigarettes more addictive to the consumer, therefore making it harder to quit. Obviously this is done for financial reasons. It is those tobacco additives that are primarily responsible for onset of cancer. Unfortunately, all research on this is either sponsored by the tobacco companies or is countered by research specifically done in a way to oppose this claim. ..again for obvious financial reasons. A cigarette made from purely organic grown tobacco plants, grown on unmolested soil, with leaves sun dried slowly instead of dried in a propane kiln, contains negligible or close to negligible traces of carcinogenic chemicals/elements. Unfortunately, the vast majority of cigarettes sold in US are not made from such tobacco. Buy the same brand of cigarettes in US and in Europe and send them to a lab. You will be amazed at the differences. I have a very good friend of mine whose family has been in the tobacco growing and manufacturing business in Bulgaria for generations. During the communism, Bulgaria was the largest manufacturer and exporter of tobacco products in the Eastern Bloc because of the very favorable climate and soil conditions for tobacco growing. One of the largest and oldest agricultural institutes in the Easter Bloc was a tobacco institute. It is true that communism/socialism was bad in a sense that most of the manufacturing facilities were decades behind their western counterparts. This closeness of the Eastern Bloc meant that new technologies were hard to be adopted. The only industry that "benefited" from being closed and all, was the food industry. Up to about the mid 90-s everything was grown organically. There were no artificial fertilizers. All tobacco products were made from organic, sundried tobacco plants. There were numerous attempts from Phillip Morris to purchase and shut down those facilities during the mid 90-s. Fortunately, most of them were privately owned such as the case of my friends family. So anyways... The point I am trying to make with this long post is that tobacco products are not necessarily the cause of cancer. It is the additives that tobacco gets stuffed with during the manufacturing process that are problematic.

just because he is a lying braggart who continues to disgrace himself and dishonor every participant on this thread doesnt mean that he isnt sometimes right. i never said he wasnt well informed or didnt do his research. but once again his post drips with hubrus as i dont believe anyone, much less brian doubted that smoking cigarettes (in this country - ytf would we care about cigs or cancer anywhere else much less bratislava) was related to some forms of cancer. what can be gleaned out of reading his post that really added new info to the discussion...cigs produced in bratislava are better than cigs produced her and the bastard western culture has failed its bankrupt society yet again.
lying braggart
