Hmmm... I would think all this "knocking" could potentially damage the cylinder, even at partial throttle. I was wondering if it's a sign of a coil going bad? Also, I don't get any fault codes, so apparently I haven't misfired (yet).
BTW- To get a "global average" of the timing correction frequency per cylinder I'll do a ca. 10 minute log while driving home from work...lots a varied driving styles...stop and go, WOT, etc. Then I'll find the average of each cylinder's timing correction by opening the log file in Excel. For me, cylinder 1's timing corrections are listed in column L, so the average for 14,486 data points (about 10 minutes) collected during the run is calculated as "=sum(L2:L14587)/14586". I do the same for cylinders 2-6, stored in columns M-Q, respectively. My averages have been something like -0.06, -0.04, -0.01, -0.02, 0.00, -0.04, respectively, for cylinders 1-6. Cylinder 1 always seems to be the worse. Less E85 makes these numbers higher (more knocking presumably for lower octane). Indeed, I can surpress most of these partial throttle timing corrections with more E85, like another gallon per tank. I suppose I can do the Cobb coil switch test. But that takes like an hour... So as long as I don't get any misfire codes I probably don't need to change coils? (I'm at 37,000 miles with new plugs about 6,000 miles ago.) Thanks in advance for everyone's comments.

The DME uses small corrections when cruising, you are not doing any damage to your motor. For that matter even under WOT, as long as you aren't seeing large corrections across multiple cylinders, you're probably OK on that front. Timing corrections happen, the DME is extremely sensitive to the conditions. If you are logging clean at WOT and not throwing any codes, your car is fine.

Regardless, did you have a previous tune? Did you ignore the message about detecting another tune and loss of data? We absolutely keep the vin intact while tuned. Of course its recommended to uninstall if you're going for an inspection or visiting the dealer. We do not set readiness codes, so inspection would likely be an issue anyway (unless they only read vin and DTCs I guess). Feel free to contact me or our techs if you have any questions about our process. -Josh |

I pulled my car apart after Shift Sector to get new turbo's installed. Was ready for a change so I sold all my Vishnu products and bought an AP. After I got the turbo's installed I had to flash my MSD80 to remove the back end flash so I wouldn't get under boost codes. I didn't write the UIF so I assumed the VIN was correct. Found out the other day it wasn't. I find it hard to believe that Vishnu put the wrong file back on my car, but it's possible. I had the flash done at FFTEC so I didn't remove my MSD. So if the COBB didn't do anything, I should be able to uninstall the COBB AP and my VIN will be incorrect. I'll try that tomorrow and let you know. I'm only 3 miles or so from Surge and if needed I can run over and visit with Tim. Thanks. |

Definitely let me know, or feel free to tell Tim to contact me, he's a good guy. Like I said, you can contact me directly if I can help also.
Just to let you guys know, one of the reasons the initial install takes longer than just changing a map is because we read the entire stock file out of your DME and use that as the base for any maps that are flashed after that. The DME's are pretty picky and if not properly coded, there can be all sorts of weird quirks... the most common is non-working cruise control. When using an AP, you should never have these problems unless there was a previous tune on the vehicle that we can't read. At that point, the AP will warn you of detection of a previous tune. You then have the option to cancel, or continue with the possible loss of data. Only at that point would you get a "generic" rom and even then it would still be from the same family of roms as originally in your DME. I know there's always some mystery as to how tuning companies do what they do, so hopefully that information helps. - Josh Quote:

You should be good to run the stage 2+ aggressive map assuming you have access to 93 octane.

![]() Have some E85 blends also. 20% E85 pump to be exact to offset 93 octane. So your results will slightly vary. But delta's will be close. |
