Thanks for all the valuable information in this post, I thought I would share my experience fitting a camera to my Australian e91 LCI 320d (with PDC).
I bought the handle camera and emulator similar to what was on the first post. I also bought the wiring extender/adapter thing to make it very neat and do the wiring/soldering outside of the vehicle. I ran into the following issues: - I could not fit the wiring extender behind the idrive unit. Perhaps I was just being a hack but I couldn't see a way it would all fit with the emulator in there as well. Maybe it is an e91 thing or and Australian model quirk. I had to not use the extended and just do the connections to the existing harness. - As above, I found the handle camera very difficult to fit in the e91 tailgate. It meant that the switch for opening the tailgate was slightly bent and therefore did not work everytime. Having a reverse camera is less important than being able to open the boot so I discarded that camera and bought another one which fits in the licence plate light socket. It works well and connected up to the same wiring that I had already run. - After I did the coding, I was getting the fuzzy screen/interference like someone else in this thread had. Like them, it was the TV signal interfering with the reverse camera signal. I had to change over from the European pins to the American pins and then recode from wert_21 to wert_23 and it was all good! - I found it incredibly difficult to get the wires through the rubber sleeve at the top of the tailgate. It took me hours and hours of trying different methods and many ripped wires. Overall, it was a fair bit of work and getting a plug and play system would have been way easier and quicker. I am stoked I got it to work though! Thanks again for everyone who posted. |

I don't know why the rubber accordian hose is giving people so many problems. You need to compress the accordian hose to make it as short as possible before attempting to run the wires. I used a normal steel coat hanger and had them through in about 5 mins. What you can do is push the accordian hose together to make it as short as possible then tape it so it doesn't expand. After that it's cake.
Also, although this is probably common knowledge, you need to remove the accordian hose completely from the trunk lid/body ends so it's loose on the harness, then compress/tape and fish your wires through.

Honestly, I'd solder. Connections are a lot more solid. Plus you don't need to deal with all that extra crap behind the unit when you re-install.

Alright, so, I was somewhat successful...
Got it all wired up for a test while camera was in my lap in the front seat. It worked great for 30 seconds, so decided to shift into Drive then back to Reverse. Nothing. Shut off car and repeated whole procedure. Again nothing. Checked all the connections. Nothing. How could it work once so well once, then nothing? Any ideas appreciated. Did I burn up the camera that fast? It should be said that my CIC is old enough that it didn't have the PDC Vertikal portion of the code available to change, but that didn't matter the first time... I've read the whole thread and found one person who asked the same but got no response.

I am running a JB4. My rear view camera has been installed as per this thread. It has been running flawlessly for 2 years. I have a 6AT and no PDC

From my understanding, This setup doesn't work with an existing CIC retrofit emulator installed, regardless if PDC is installed already. Correct ?
Could a new emulator for cic/camera work https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E9x-E90...UAAOSwynRZvpSo |

Scott, in the image above the two wires (red and red with white stripe) that originally went into where you put the wires from the RCA, what did you do with the two original wires, the wire and red with white stripe? Capped them off? wired in to where they were along with the RCA? Thanks |

![]() This is the RCA cable from the Emulator. One wire is black and the other is red, so which color is positive (+) to connect to pin 18m, which color is negative (-) to connect to pin 28 ??? |
