"You'll find most every kind of gal and guy, including a private eye."

I loved it and watched every episode. This played from elementary school to high school for me, and I am still mildly ashamed of how much Brylcreem I smeared in my hair in those days. Had the Kookie wave and everything going on.

"The girls will all flock to ya, they love to run their fingers through your hair".

Not the girls in my neighborhood. Though I did eventually have a girlfriend (we went on to marry), it was not until 1965, after 77SS had ended and the axle grease look with it. Have been going au naturel ever since.

I was a 91 lb. "weakling" in high school with toothpick arms. But my back and legs were strong; I had a good power-to-weight ratio if you will. I couldn't haul myself up that rope arms-first with any kind of speed, so one day I got the crazy idea to flip my legs up above me and go that way. ZOOM! I beat the guy with samson arms to the top! However he still won, because I had to flip back the other way before going back down. After another skinny friend of mine had similar success the phys ed teacher declared our method "dangerous", and that was that.

^^^Football and street hockey.

For baseball, we played in an actual sandlot. Not a lot of ground ball hits there.

Even my kids in the late 80s/early 90s played in the street. Mostly kickball and soccer.

We also used to play football in a friend's back yard which sloped downhill, had a level area, then sloped down again. The top of the slope on the uphill side was one boundary. The fence at the bottom of the hill was the other. There was a willow tree near one end zone that you had to work around. Not the best football field by far.

You know you're old if you know what the 7-Eleven store's name stands for: It stands for when it used to be open; 7am to 11pm.

It's significant because today is 7/11. 7-Eleven is giving away free Slurpees today in honor of the date. Yay!

"The convenience store chain traces its origin to 1927, when several icehouse companies merged to form the Southland Ice Company in Dallas, Texas. To reflect their extended hours of operation, the stores were renamed in 1946 as 7-Eleven: open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m."

When we first moved here 22 years ago I was writing a check (shame on me) at a CVS store and asked the cashier if CVS was ok to write on the check or did it need to be Consumer Value Stores? She said CVS was fine and then said she had never known what CVS even stood for until then.
