Virginia Comes to Its Senses and Pulls Out of 'California Electric Vehicle Mandate'

Consumers and car dealers in Virginia are breathing a sigh of relief after Gov. Glenn Youngkin announced that the state would no longer be following California's lead in mandating the adoption of electric vehicles that very few people want.
"Once again, Virginia is declaring independence -- this time from a misguided electric vehicle mandate imposed by unelected leaders nearly 3,000 miles away from the Commonwealth," Gov. Glenn Youngkin said in a statement from his office.
"The idea that government should tell people what kind of car they can or can’t purchase is fundamentally wrong," he added. "Virginians deserve the freedom to choose which vehicles best fit the needs of their families and businesses. The law is clear, and I am proud to announce Virginians will no longer be forced to live under this out-of-touch policy."

This means nothing to me. I don’t really care about the range impacts. I haven’t had any issues going to multiple hospitals over and over on the weekend in call without even having to recharge my car during the summer last year when it was unbelievably hot. I’m only dealing with practical life issues.

I do drive all cars slower in the rain so I cover less ground per hour. That’s just because I don’t want to die.

As I predicted, many excesses of government are being walked back and a more moderate central path forward will likely continue to evolve on EVs.

Sorry, the statement, "The same thing happens with gas cars, we just don't think about it that much" (regarding temporary range loss) is utter BS. ICEV do not lose 25% to 40% of temporary range loss (i.e. MPG drop) in winter or summer. I have 18 years and 400,000+ miles of MPG data to prove this.

Also ICEV refueling time is unaffected by temperature.

They are rather severely affected by short trips, as far as efficiency.

Anyone else test drive the Kia EV6 GT? I have one as a loaner right now, and it is very interesting! I've never seen one up close in person (it's more of a wagon than SUV). Interior is pretty nice, really nice sport seats, and wow does it pull especially when you press the GT button on the steering wheel! Very impressive especially from Kia.

Odd, my Tacoma gets better mileage around town than it does at 70MPH. Could have to do with it being as aerodynamic as a brick.

My current commute in my E90 is 13 miles one way and it still pulls 27 MPG, the same as it did on my 80-mile 1-way trip I did from 2008 thru 2021. I have empirical data to back this claim. My start and ending fuel records.

Didn't think is was my job to change the article posted in Top Speed. You could probably insure a Bugatti Veyron for that much a month but do you think $2,371 to $2,874 a year is reasonable?
I will add a note to the post to suggest the time frame is wrong to illuminate confusion.
