He says it's in great shape, I don't have reason to doubt it yet. Waiting on photos of the underside.

But $5k high - yeesh. That seems like a low-ball offer. I usually don't do that, probably because I don't get that far into negotiating with way over priced vehicles as a general habit.
If it has an enthusiast-level pedigree, that changes things for sure, it just wasn't mentioned. I didn't note the other cars, could be that! I re-looked at the add, and yeah, a pretty nice garage!
But I've seen a few MT E91s in the $11k-13k range in the last year, most without sport package, but some with lower mileage, all RWD.
Just my take, not trying to screw things up for the seller or buyer.
If you have the coin, then it's a beautiful car!

no sport but it got few rare options !

sport is not that hard to retrofit, and not super expensive. M pack is hard and expensive to retrofit tho.

This one w/ 25k miles went for $35k and change, not including buyers premium. That is just nuts. Looks like it was a bidding war. Thing is, when people see it for comps, the bidding war is not apparent.

Holy smokes. That’s gotta be top 5 for e91s on BaT. I know the mileage but that’s wayyyy over bought IMO.

Yeah, I'm going to call on it. I wasn't too keen on the color combo but at least it's not gray and black....lol. Also prefer a LCI, but geez, with these, beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Good luck.....you undoubtedly realize this but lack of underbody rust is huge.....for a RWD 6MT around 100k miles this is probably about as good as you'll find outside of BAT....

For sure, a huge factor. And anything much lower mileage will be out of budget on BaT pretty quick too.

This car is a bit unique in that it has sport package - and that's pretty much it. Base stereo, no cold weather package, no fog lights, no premium package, virtually no bells and whistles. Has had oil changes every 3500 miles. Within the last 10-20k has had water pump done as a preventative measure. For the mileage, the front end is nearly immaculate - he's had this front end bra/cover on it all the time.

In 08, with ~ 8000 miles on it, it was a manufacturer buyback. Reason is unknown at this point, but it's on the title. He said it's been a flawless car for him. It's his "ski car", from the Tuscon area to the Sierras, and if all it's ever seen is highway miles, that explains the brakes and clutch.

It's a little hard to know what to offer here. It's a pretty bare bones car, with the stuff that matters - sport package. I know he says the clutch and brakes are good but at 100k, these are on the horizon for sure, especially because it's going to see more mixed driving with me than it has for him. I also suspect it may benefit from a suspension refresh at this point due to just gradual wear over time that may not be so apparent to him compared to new.

Any thoughts or advice on that?

It presents well in photos but 16.5K is a lot for a nearly 20 year old car that is not an M car. For that amount of money you might be able to have a 335i touring built.

It's not my money, but if I wanted a manual e91 I'd make it happen. This car has the earmarks of a meticulous owner - lack of curb rash on the wheels for one thing. Once you eliminate the high-dollar BAT cars, the AWD cars, the high-mileage cars, you're left with a handful of RWD MT single-hump mid-mileage cars. On top of that rust-free and pretty well cared-for? It might be a while before you find another opportunity like this one.

Very true, but it's old man bronzit color which in my opinion is the hardest color to sell unless it's a Camry. Even E30's in bronzit are still ugh.
