A quick search found this:

The first commercially successful purpose-designed bicycle helmet was the Bell Biker, a polystyrene-lined hard shell released in 1975. At the time there was no appropriate standard; the only applicable one, from Snell, would be passed only by a light open-face motorcycle helmet.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bicycl...cycle%20helmet.

I was 20 in 1975. Rode bikes in to my 50s.

My brother's accident was late 60's or early 70's. I was driving in '75.

I got hit by a car, which wrecked my bike and roughed me up pretty bad. Didn't feel like sharing the road with cars after that so I took a break for a few years. A few years turned into forever. Now I walk; 3 miles most every night. Hopefully I'll never get hit again.

We’re you 16 in ‘72? I was 16 in ‘71. Thought I was a few more years older than you.

You know you are old when...you cannot be certain which day it is, but you can remember to buy holiday presents 4 months in advance.

At home we had the third dog in the video recorders fight: the Philips V2000 (developed by Philips and Grundig). Unlike VHS and Betamax, tapes could record on both sides. I recall that it came with a cartoon instruction video featuring classical music and dancing cartoon figures.

A fitting example of how a more innovative product couldn't stand its ground amid an existing market dominated by VHS (JVC) and Betamax (Sony). Existence: 1979-1988.

We had only 3/4-inch U-matic videos at our house, because my old man was a broadcast engineer for one of the big-3 TV networks and we weren't allowed to have home-grade electronics.

FWIW, my high school graduation video was even recorded on U-matic.....

70s. Neighbor kid had a new bicycle (race bicycle) purchased in France (his dad is French). We go for a ride in the neighborhood performing some 'slidings '. At some point, we agreed to swap bicycles. Now, here's a catch. Belgian and French bicycles have different brakes positions: the French ones got the front brake handle on the right and the rear brake handle on the left. On Belgian bicycles, it's the other way around. I wasn't aware about this difference. As I used my right hand to perform a first 'sliding' on my friend's bicycle at a fast speed, the front brake blocked the front wheel, launching me head over heels. I don't recall the salto but other kids did. The next thing I remember: I am staring at a ceiling inside some house I had never visited, lying down + two women (my mother and the house owner) hanging over me and saying: "Ah, at last, he's back". Knock-out and concussion requiring me a couple of days of 'lockdown' in a darkened bedroom (that sucked, because those were summer holidays).

No kid wore bicycle helmets back in the day. And we spent way more miles on bicycles in the neighborhood than nowadays kids. A bicycle meant 'freedom' ("No cycling today!" was a harsh punishment by parents).

I might be in that category but I'm still going to try that. I usually use the time bar to find the part I want but that can be hit/miss.
I showed a YouTube video to my daughter. She ticked the video on my phone and set the playback speed to 1.5x because the person presenting the video "spoke too slow". The current youngsters scroll lightning-fast through screens and messages.

Phone typing with 1 index finger instead of turbo typing with two thumbs + phones with flip cover = "old people".
