Shuttered auto plants will become EV factories thanks to $1.7 billion Bozo program.
Eleven auto factories across eight states that are currently closed or at risk of closing will receive the funding in order to retrofit their operations for EV manufacturing, administration officials said in a call with reporters. The types of goods these factories will produce run the gamut from “parts for electric motorcycles and school buses, hybrid powertrains, heavy-duty commercial truck batteries, and electric SUVs,” the White House says. https://www.theverge.com/2024/7/11/2...-grant-funding Double down on stupid is easy with someone else's money. Dateline 2030: Today the President Alexander Soros of the United Socialist Association of Cities (previously know as the United States of America) Announced it would spend 9 Billion to convert shuttered EV plants into homeless shelters. First allocation of space will be given to former members of the UAW who were the first to loose their jobs in the failed electrification attempt of the 2020's. |

The EV folks just haven't figured it out yet but many will. Cars are no longer just modes of transportation; they are increasingly integrated into the larger energy infrastructure. If your EV is sitting in your garage fully charged (cars are typically parked 95 percent of the time) and you lose power, that big battery offers an opportunity to keep the lights on. And when there’s a sudden spike in demand for the grid—because everyone wants to turn on their AC during a heat wave or their heat during a deep freeze—utilities could pay homeowners for their excess battery power. This is known as bidirectional or vehicle-to-grid charging (aka V2G), and it’s “one of the legitimate game changers,” says Clifford Rechtschaffen, commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission. “If all the EVs in the state plug in during these peak load times and feed power back to the grid, they’re acting as giant batteries. We could use them to greatly relieve stress on the grid during the periods of greatest need.” https://www.wired.com/story/electric...us-power-grid/ It's cruel but I intend to laugh my ass off when the first EV owner posts that his fully charged EV was in the garage and in the morning it was down to 20%. |

It's going to take a year or two for the folks to figure out the current hybrids are a technology boondoggle. The juice will not be worth the squeeze. |

Firefighters work electric vehicle fire at Edmonds car dealership
July 11, 2024 Firefighters responded to an electric vehicle fire at an Edmonds car dealership Thursday morning, according to South County Fire. The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in an unoccupied electric car at the dealership located at State Route 104 and Highway 99. Crews used water to cool the fire and deployed a new tool, an EV fire blanket, to contain toxic fumes. Firefighters continued to monitor the car throughout the afternoon, and plans are underway to move it to a location equipped to handle electric vehicle fires. The response included 15 fire units, including a hazardous materials truck, and more than 30 firefighters. Typically, a fire in a non-electric vehicle usually requires just one fire engine with a crew of three. https://www.yahoo.com/news/firefight...022540045.html Can't wait till there are more EV's in service and the fleet gets older with more cycles on the batteries! |

Nothing to see here, move along.
EV Batteries’ Chemical Risks to US Workers Rising as Plants Grow July 9, 2024 Fires from overheated cells. Inhalation of chemical fumes. Acid spills potent enough to eat through flesh and bone. When the company, Ultium Cells LLC, invited firefighters for a meeting at the plant, chief Travis Eastham thought they would be getting information on how to handle chemical injuries. Instead, “we sat through an infomercial on why you should go electric,” Eastham said. “It was kind of a waste, honestly.” The plant was the site of an explosion in March 2023, and Ultium faced fines of $270,000 after the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration found 19 violations. “OSHA inspectors found the company exposed workers to machine and chemical hazards by failing to use and train workers on safety and emergency response procedures,” So far in 2024, OSHA and its state partners have issued citations for 47 violations. That’s already more than the 44 violations alleged in 2023 and a 147% boost over the 19 violations found in 2022. Metals used in lithium-ion EV batteries such as nickel, lithium, and cobalt are known to cause a variety of ailments, from cancer to nerve damage. And yet the extent of the risks posed by handling these materials is just beginning to come into focus. https://news.bloomberglaw.com/safety...as-plants-grow Last edited by Car-Addicted; 07-12-2024 at 09:09 AM.. |

^ If you watched the MacMasters reading on his radiation meter, was 800.5 in the red over the danger level. He'll be back to show what the reading is when the vehicle is being charged

America’s electric grid is on the brink with EPA's Clean Power Plan 2.0
Jul 11, 2024 Legacy power plants are rapidly retiring while power demand is projected to rise at historic rates, driven by artificial intelligence and data centers, manufacturing and President Bozo’s efforts to force electrification of the economy, including the cars and trucks we drive. If we continue on our current course, energy demand in the U.S. will exceed supply in just a few years. “Clean Power Plan 2.0,” a new set of stringent rules targeting power plant emissions." In the Clean Power Plan 2.0, the EPA requires existing coal-fired power plants and new baseload natural gas-fired power plants to eliminate virtually all carbon emissions by 2032. Unfortunately, Bozo has ignored this reality and chosen to finalize the rule, which is clearly designed to close down the power plants that currently provide 60 percent of America’s electricity. https://theenergynewsbeat.substack.c...grid-is-on-the So lets close power plants while forcing electrification of the transportation sector, advancing AI's growing power requirements plus the power demands of mining of Crypto. What could possibly go wrong. |
