Has anyone contacted Dinan about 29.2 and their latest flash? I've got a call in, but no return call yet. I had asked before about the latest 29.2 and was told that they ovewrite most of the functioned related to engine performance and not to worry, but this thread makes me wonder.

I guess I have always had 29.2, Feb 08 build. I do notice the lag, thought it was normal till I read this thread and saw all the complaints. I am used to it so I would like to drive a pre 29.2 car.

disappointed
I contacted CR and the rep had not heard of the issue. It was a polite, but slightly passive aggressive conversation. She hinted that people call CR prematurely before giving the dealer a chance to diagnose, and I hinted that the dealer toes the party line to the point of being dangerous when there are malfunctions in the vehicle (HPFP failures, anyone?) until the issue comes to a head. Seems like they are still in the denial phase, and reminds me of the HPFP issue all over again.
I too chose the 335i in part because of the tremendous power available at lower RPMs. I even held off on a 330 in 2006 because it couldn't hang with the much cheaper G35 or even the TL. Now my car feels like the old 330 with a lame single turbo, and it will just not be the same car until BMW fixes this. Important: Keep the calls coming, because unlike the HPFP issue, they do not have a long list of SOS calls to enumerate the scope of this problem. This means YOU! |

I just got back from my dealership and talked to my SA about the new 29.2 lag issue for about 10 min. He was very cool about it and very understanding (which he should be, of course). I told him about the increased lag and that the low-end power that I loved was gone and he understood that was crappy.
SA said they have updated "several other cars" w/ 29.2 and have not had any other reports of lag from other customers (?). But, he was very interested to know about the problem. On Monday, I sent an e-mail to the SA and CA with my complaint about the lag issue. SA said they forwarded it to the Field Svc Engineer for our region. SA told me that he didnt think BMW would "intentionally dumb-down the performance" and that they would try to make it right asap. SA said he would follow-up with the FSE and get back with me next week. I told them I was not going to order an '09 335 until my '07 car was back to normal. He indicated that he couldnt promise me anything but would try to see if they could get the previous progman version back on my car. So, we shall see... If that works, then you may be the one who gets the ball moving in the right direction! Keep us posted; I'm putting off my oil service until we know more about this.

I would think with your Stage 2,vers. "whatever" that Dinan would have to/be willing to reflash and make you whole. It's been quite a ride the last couple of months. It makes me long for the good old days when you bought a car, maybe hopped it up, drove it, and sold it. With about four Progmans, two ECUs, umpty-ump piggy backs, and ??? flashes, it's more than a bit confusing. All that said, with my '07 (vers. 2) E92 with Progman (27.9?) and Dinan's "Old Original" Flash, now called Stage 2, vers. 1, I'm still saying - It's a wonderful car. I agree, I have the Stage II rev 2 and it's sweet. I called into Niello yesterday and they said they would not be doing any software upgrades for oil service unless there was a customer complaint related to software. They are aware of the Dinan flash and I told them if they remove it without authorization, or without replacing the Dinan flash software, I will claim theft of $2k; he agreed, since they are a Dinan flash shop as well as Schatz & Krum. The car is fantastic, I agree again, a true kick in the pants, my morning commute is a whole lot higher on the fun factor now, glad you're still enjoying it!

It seems like a dyno before and after the 29.2 update (on the same car at the same dyno facility) would be the best way to prove this issue.....?? It should be easy to see if the turbo is not spooling early.
Someone out there has got to have a before and after dyno I would think? Talk about easy proof... |

one more thing - mpgs
Taking it in tomorrow to hopefully get this crapped removed. One thing I forgot to mention in my earlier posts was that I've been getting easily 5mpg less with the 29.2 than the original progman. If they can't yank this garbage out tomorrow, then I don't want the car back...

Hey Mike, how do like Progman 30 so far? Which dealer did you go to for version 30? Please shed some light on this. Thx.

Sorry to disappoint but I have my car flagged with DO NOT UPDATE SOFTWARE, so I did not get 30. I told my SA I do not want the car updated under any circumstances and he was cool with that. I went to Downtown BMW.
