.. alot of things go into play though when we compare brands of gas on different types of cars... N/A or FI cars.

these are not assumptions as I have been in this game for a long time and have seen and experience problems with different gas stations here in SO CAL (arco and chevron)and that is why i stick with what works around here... 76 and shell.

. get PROcede on your car...go fill up with Arco and listen to your car PING PING PING and then come on here and tell me i wasnt assuming it would do that ... You couldnt pay me to put Arco in my car.
I dont use Arco on an everday purchase, but the few times(same sttaion) I have,It was ok.Chevron,Texaco and Shell work fine for my everday cars.

Wont even come close to Citgo, political reasons.

Not sure if I will get Procede or not, sounds like a great product but I just dont drive the car that much.About 500 miles a month is all, more for my wife to run around in.Ive got other cars both NA and FI that I play with, been in "The Game" awhile also.

On a side note here,Ive been spotted before by service advisors from the dealer for having mods done to my car.So I always keep that in mind when I type what mods I have done on the net.

Oh, and I had 9300 miles on the ODO.

also for your current cars what is somewhat high compression... a N/A car with 10.1 compression is somewhat high compression but will last all day with ARCO and Chevron gas... that i know from experience. I had a 11.1 compression LSvtech motor built with p30 pistions
head milled a tad and was able to use that gas...just on the FI cars i have with higher boost than stock i had no luck with those gas stations and not to man

yea you ahve to be careful...getting warranty voided must be a damn nightmare;...just have to play it safe and remove anything that might be directly related to the source of the problem..... BMW might very well try and say a bad fuel pump could be related to higher settings from modifications done.

Whoa there... a PROcede'd car wont ping if you fill up with Arco, Valero, Costco, Safeway, Raceway, etc,. The factory ECU will just pull back timing and the car will just be down on power. If it's really bad, it will go into a low boost limp mode. But once it gets good gas, it'll be back to being normal. Also, it's impossible to say that X brand is better than Y brand when comparing top tier fuels. Different areas/different stations seem to provide different formulations of gasoline. You don't HAVE TO use one particular gas brand. Just avoid the questionable stations and you'll be fine. If you find that one particular brand works for you better than another, use it. If not, don't sweat it and just fill up with name brand fuel.

This is true, however i filled with Chevron not to long after my PROcede and it did ping pretty loud... so right when i got home i put in like 4 gallons of 100 octane i had and it went back to normal... so going into low boost limp mode because it was pulling timing back...wouldnt that be because of bad gas? (in this case)

also questionable stations like Valero, Costco, Safeway?

Yet another fuel pump bites the dust

I took my car into the dealer this morning after experiencing most of the symptoms noted in the previous fuel pump reports .... poor idle, occassional surges, limited ability to accelerate and the distinct sound an engine makes when it is firing away with insufficient fuel. Got the call back and sure enough they need to replace the fuel pump. Apparently they will have one at the dealer in the morning and I will be on my way late tommorrow afternoon (I'm a trusting soul).

For the record its a 335, AT, Prem+Sport with a build date of September 2006 (from the tag on the B pillar) with about 4300 miles on it.

While I am there tomorrow I'll ask what (if anything) they plan to do about the oil cooler situation

I was informed by my SA that BMW most likely will do a recall on this issue, but they are waiting for their inventory of pumps to build up first. For now they are taking it case by case.

No point in issuing a recall if there are no new pumps available.

I had the same symptoms at 5K as well but it turned out to be a bad spark plug. All is well now so far...

My build date was 09/06. All of a sudden I'm worried. Hope they do a recall rather than wait for all suspect pumps to go belly up.
