Picked up my kit from the dealer tonight and was told that mine was the 3rd one they've sold this week so it looks as though this is a popular upgrade. Paid £220 all in so I'm quite happy with that as well.
If the weather holds I'm going to have a go at fitting it tomorrow. Miopyk |

Well it's all fitted and working and like others have said the transformation is fantastic. Much more depth and clarity. It took me about 5 hours to fit including an hour to figure out a way of getting the loom into the cabin.
When I bought the car I was tempted to buy the Hi Fi upgrade but didn't think it was worth the money. This upgrade is not only cheaper (if you fit it yourself) but I think sounds much better. Overall I'm really happy with the transformation. The downside is I found a puddle of water under the back seats and the seat foam is soaking wet but I think another thread is needed for this. Went to my local BMW dealer and got a price of £230 for the kit inc the window parts needed ... then was quoted £320 + vat to fit it!
Thats ridiculous! Im waiting for my fitter to get back from his hols then im hading him the bits and the BMW instructions and send him on his merry way!

I think i may do this too. But does anyone know the part codes for the window parts on an 320d MSport might be, because it looks like the triangular part is physically connected to the window trim as a whole?

Hi to all-Alpine speaker kit now fitted!
Hi, I was unsure as to the quality of the retrofit alpine speaker package so I made some enquiries at a local ICE "specialist" and, upon looking at my car the guy shook his head and made it clear he was not interested in helping in ANY way (I was hoping to get all the standard BMW kit replaced as a cheaper alternative to the £550 I was hoping not to spend!). He explained that the manufacturer had made it impossible to retrofit any alternative due to the unknown variables involved i.e resistances/voltages/ohms/watts etc (this is to ensure they make sales in this area)
I then had an "all in" quote from Knights BMW in Stafford of £550. A person replying on a previous thread on here explained that he had had the job done for £450 (including a "trade" discount) and also somewhere else mentions that it was a much bigger job than anticipated-involving 4 or 5 hours labour. My car was dropped off at 830 am and I was still waiting for my keys at 4pm!!! BMW are only allowed, by law, to charge the hourly rate that their installation book states and, to that effect, charged me the £550 quoted (even though the work probably took 5 or 6 hours to do. The vehicle was returned washed and hoovered (as expected?) So, in respect of the quality of noise produced, the Alpine upgrade has made my stereo ("Professional" BMW head unit??? lol) sound as it should have when i took delivery of the car in the first place (if i had bothered to listen to the quality of the system at that time I would have refused delivery!). Its a shame that BMW spent a million enabling the stereo to display MPG etc and have spent nothing trying to make a stereo sound good!! |

Glad you like it - and welcome to the forums!
I was in the same boat - the BMW fitting instructions state that the installation time is 2.5 hours "dependent upon equipment already fitted" which suggests that if you already have other modules in the area - like bluetooth, it might take longer to fit. Due to not having done this install before, my dealer took over four hours. My all in bill was about £500 but I suspect the further south you go, the higher the hourly labour rate so your price was reasonable - especially since some dealers have quoted forum members in excess of £750. I think the important thing is to tie them down to the "official" 2.5 hour labour time. In terms of your last comment that the standard sound system is poor, I think it's a legacy of BMW (and some other German makers as well) when they used to supply cars without a stereo at all on the basis that "makes it easier for the discerning customer to fit a unit that matches his requirements." Hah! |

Hi All,
I need some help, half of the install is done, but ran out of time so have to finish off at the weekend but have a few questions that I would like some help with just to make sure is done the right way. What have done so far speakers are in amp is ready to go just got to cut into wires in door seal. Just want to check i have done it the right way. Speaker wires for doors (B) are not tagged b1 b2 So I guess you just match up the colours with original wire? My friend said to solder the wires instead of using the connectors supplied by bmw Do you think is worth the extra hasle? I have sound which does seem slightly clearer but no bass but then just running alpine speakers of head unit. Thanks hope some of it make sense Just a quick note to anyone else considering this I got supplied by bmw to drivers side tweeter covers even though part numbers where different on box.
