So is this possible to do if I have CIC (not retrofitted) and no PDC?

By reading through the thread, it looks like I must buy the PDC module also?
But no one is sure if this will work?

The reason I'm so interested in this is, well canbus does not have the signal for reverse on a typical manual transmission car. Even those multimedia interfaces such as this one: http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw-...amera-retrofit

tell you to tap into reverse light on manual transmission cars in order to activate the module to switch input to rear view.

So this means that the reason PDC is required is that it sends reverse gear signal onto the canbus.

My CIC is retrofitted with a can bus emulator and I know this thing does not work with that inline but I'm wondering if there is a way to combine it, the same way as these vendors did
http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw-...em-integration
http://bimmerretrofit.com/store/inde...&product_id=95

you should just unlock your cic vin so you don't need the emulator for it to work and then retrofit the back up camera and use emulator for that.... if anyone is interested in unlocking their CIC I have a great guy that can do it in 15 min remotely no matter where you are located!!! just pm me for details!!

oh nice, so you just tapped into the existing wires and didn't even have to bypass them... that's awesome! no cutting just stripped and soldered those onto existing wires right?

I just attempted to code this retrofit for a customer and all was successful until he tried to OP's check. The CIC screen pops up (just a black screen), but there's no image from the camera. All connections were checked. Any ideas...

Edit: Wasn't getting a power source from CIC. Ran power directly from battery and camera now works. BUT... No CD/DVD playback... Says invalid format.

I didn't see a response to cover this, but PDC is "NOT" required. The car I mentioned above doesn't have PDC (front or rear). It was wired just like the OP covered, except camera is drawing power directly from battery.

so I got all the parts, took me 5 months to start the installation, handle installed, and when I have removed the Navi I noticed that mine looks different and cables are also different colors plus I don't have any numbers on the black connector so not sure where the new cables should slide. Anyone can help me here, will try to attach some pictures to this

I think any harness like that one will do the job, I've found a couple others here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1209771965...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2515753317...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Just means you can splice into the harness wires instead of the cars wiring to keep everything original and undamaged should you decide to remove etc.
The one in the link you mentioned doesn't ship to the UK so I'm going for one of the two I've linked instead, hopefully the fit will be good as i have had ISO connectors in the past which haven't fitted brilliantly so fingers crossed.

Hoping someone can chime in a help me out here.

I've had all the components install, Camera, emulator and coded successfully.

But I'm stuck at a hurdle. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here.

The wires for the reverse camera at the back doesn't seem like its getting power perhaps at the correct connection points.

That wire is suppose to power the camera when you put the car into reverse. Don't connect the camera directly to the battery, you DON'T want it powered on all the time.

don't take out the screen, you have to take out the radio part, the head unit that's located down where you insert your dvd and cd.. you hook up in the back of that

I did that just to see if it was getting any power to test. But still didn't work. I initially connected it to the USB port at the back of the trunk +/-

But there is still that one single RED wire? where the hell does it go? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here

Where did you connect the following wires as pictured in my previous post???

HELP!

Thanks

According to the ebay seller, it works with both CIC and CCC.

Did you connect the other end to the white wire coming out of the emulator? Re-read step 5.

I posted that about a month ago and moved on from it. And if I read the entire thread I'd be left confused because you're saying one thing, and others say something else.
