Combox harness part numbers are available with each Combox order for now. We do plan to get prewired harness in February supplied with each device.

Unfortunately no success with transferring existing TCU account in to the new Combox so far. Still looking for the way to resolve the issue.

install part 2

I saw in a friend car (BMW X5 E70) the CIC new system that I was very impressed.
BMW dealer did not want to do a retrofit for CIC and so I chose to do this alone.
I searched the internet and I came across the guys at www.bmwretrofit.com
I buy the kit from them (is the same for E70) and received in 3 weeks (i am from Romania).
I managed to order from the dealer the rest of the parts i needed and i installed the new CIC in the car .
The guys send me all the info i need for a primary installation.
In the first 10 minutes i wanted back my old CCC.
After 10 minutes i saw that the new CIC is AWESOME and wanted to have all the systems working!! I asked for the coding.
Alex do the coding for my car. He is not so communicative like Vlad but he do the job via internet in the end, after we have some problems with my laptop.

The problems i have after the installation and coding are:

1. Voice control (option 600$) is in German.

2.The PDC don't work. You need to put aditional 2 sets of 8 wires in the car. This come from the back in the front of the car.You need to order a new part JBE BOX (the kit from bmwretrofit.com don't include that) and cut some wires from the trunk. The old pdc module is not good anymore. Guys said that PDC will work after another coding of the new JBE BOX.

3.Back up Camera also don't work. They say will work after coding the new JBE BOx. Will see...

4. The last problem i have is i can't communicate with the guys like we communicate before (before i buy the kit)
They use a skype account and email. Via email is ok the reply come very fast (about 2-3 hours). Because i am from Europe i have a GMT +2 and they have GMT -5. There is a 7 hour difference.
Every time when i ask for help i do the things in the night in my location. This is not a problem but after you chat something via skype and stay in the car about 1 hour for a reply the thing become annoying.
I know they have many costumers but everybody need the same respect.
Now i have scheduled (with Vlad) a coding for Monday 11.01.2011. Hope i can do the install of the wires (PDC) and JBE Box till then.

Hope this is helping you if you want to do the retrofit. I communicate here the progress of my installation!
Today me and Vlad managed to code the car and resolve:
1.Voice control in english ok
2.Pdc working ok, after i instaled 2 sets of 8 wires from the back to the front of the car.

The remaining problem is the rear camera...i need to wait that they find a solution for that. In the first discution that i have with www.bmwretrofit.com they say i need 2 wires instaled so my rear camera work.... This is not true yet. I wait for a solution.

Conclusion > If they don't find a slotion for camera the CIC instalation was to expensive and the pointless because of the money lost . I hope i don't need to buy a new oem camera because is about 600 usd ..(

its not difficult to change. and no im not working at bmw. im only a customer.
you have to change the existing tcu und mulf, put the 18 pins in a new connector and thats is.

only the can bus (Ecell needs it) is the problem at the moment. i took it from pdc, not working. ecell (telematik) is "speeking" abouve the can bus. media about the most.
i will now try another constaltion, i keep you informed when i solved the problem.

the difficult thing i to find an engineer who makes the coding on you location. no bmw dealer can do.

last week i recived the "media" snapin for the iphone4.

kind regards steven

Coding of the VIN in to combox will not help you at all.
IMEI number is the number you are looking at in your telematics combox to match with your existed TCU number.
Combox communicates via MOST. Can bus is needed for something else, but not for the primary communication.
You may get canbus from different modules depend on the vehicle. I would suggest to look in to WDS (we have one for free at our bmwretrofit.com) website and find where is the easiet and nearest palce to get CAN from

Nearest places to get CAN for combox on E9x series - right wiring harness. Fast connectors will help (PN 61 13 8 364 566 )

media components in the combox communicates via MOST, thats right.
ECELL (telematik) communicates via CAN!!!
also its necessary to programm the combox to you VIN (last 7)
i think we have solved the problem. will test it on the weekend.
you are not able to programm the combox ecell module via most - you will get no answer of the module.

keep you informed.

The TCU/Telematics communicates thru MOST. I think that your problerm is the OBD cable that you are using to code the Combox.

I have the same problem with my OBD cable, some TCU can be read when connected to OEM HU, others cannot when connected to the iDrive (CCC/CIC).

Not correct, Combox, as a single unit, communicates all via MOST with the GW.
CAN bus in Combox is used for other pourposes, however related to the Emergency Call.

You do realize that you will need to do and buy much more than these iDrive parts to install them in your non-iDrive E93, -in replacing your dash, your shifter trim and creating wire harnesses- correct?

Hi rezi,

congratulations - great job - well done.

Could you just confirm, whether I summarize correctly:

You had before OEM-wise a MULF and a TCU and replaced both devices by a new combox Telematics, right?

Some additional questions:
Did the Assist function work directly after combox install?
Do you have option 6NF installed in your M3?
Do you need after combox installation the new multimedia snap-in adapter to connect the iphone to the car?
Can you access Video files in your iPod/iPhone over USB?

As far as I know did you the first successful retrofit in the German-speaking area.
It would be brilliant if you can start a short diy threat in motor-talk.de.

Wish you a relaxed Sunday and enjoy the combox functions.

br,
Matt
