You will not hear anything from a dealership until they get official info from BMW.

The 6NR activation code is not the same as the map update code, which you could enter with your iDrive controller.
Even if you buy the 6NR activation code (I can guarantee there is no other source than BMW) you still have to install the hardware, code the car and most important load the 6NR activation code into your car...

Interesting. In general, its hard for me to comprehend how a car officially retrofitted by BMW with 6NR would have the 6NR, or any other option on the Vehicle Order for that matter, wiped out later with a vehicle software update. One would think that the vehicle would retain all the Vehicle Order Options it had to start with. If this is a problem though, wouldn't retrofitted post 3/11 builds also run the same risk of having 6NR wiped out at a future date if the software is updated?

Assuming the 6NR activation code is available then the car with the 6NR retrofitted by:
- a dealership (meeting ALL the requirements posted above)
or
- BimmerTech (for cars produced from 03/2011)
will not lose any features after the software update.

However, if the car was produced before 03/2011 a dealership will not retrofit the 6NR. We can do it, but then the 6NR will be erased by the software update and we will have to recode it.

The reason why the 6NR will be wiped out is because the BMW software (ISTA/P) that is used to program and code the car takes the Vehicle Order as a pattern to perform these operations. The VO includes the list of installed options as well as the production date. Moreover ISTA/P checks the hardware numbers of all modules installed in the car and compares them to the numbers it has defined for the specific production date. If they do not match it will not allow to program the car.
To sum up, we cannot change the VO they way we want it but we have to do it the way the BMW software will accept.

I am not sure if this helps, but I do not want to go more into details as it may complicate it even more

Apart from the above, if the vehicle software is the issue in MY 2011 builds prior to 03/11, I don't know why they wouldn't just offer as part of the official OEM 6NR Retrofit to also upgrade the vehicle software at the same time, prior to adding 6NR?

Patrys- Can the dealership perform the software update manually and via a menu deselect the items the owner may wish to have left untouched (Nav, 6NR, etc), or is it All or nothing? If so, BUMMER!

Very interesting that your dealer will be installing the baseplate when there is no OEM baseplate retrofitt. And that the 6NR retrofit specifically requires the 6NF baseplate from factory.

I am not going to even try to beat it!

I know how much a dealership pays for parts and I know how much work it is to install the smartphone integration and the 6NR and I also know more less how much the 6NR code will cost, so if you have it in writing then if I were you I would already be begging them to start doing that for $440 + whatever tax they want

Another thing is that they are quoting you on something they can't really sell to you and they can't even confirm the price.

I have a march 2011 build e90 with everything except 6nf. Can my car get 6NR (BMW apps) with just software coding? Or is additional hardware needed? I don't want the base plate. Do I need to go to a central location on the east coast or can this be done at my home via remote coding? I live near Philadelphia.
