UPDATE : I ve successfully installed the version 2.0.2 to my other laptop. Since I am far from the home , being without the OBD cable , might causing software not to open after the first time. I will check it around Sat and report back.

It will open without a cable. It won’t open if you don’t have Java installed, so that might be the issue. Also I noticed you said 2.0.2 again which is the wrong version, hopefully you used 2.2 (02.02) as instructed!

Ok. Java is installed. It opens the software after the installation but not after exiting out. And I will double check the version. You might be right i think i have the wrong version.

I have succesfully installed the Version 02.02 to my main laptop. The reason CIP installer was showing the start button disable was the previous version was installed before and in order to activate that button you need to go to older version installer .bat then click uninstall them it allows you to install the software properly.

The issue I am having with the 02.02 is Java.

"luckily I have a screenshot software that I can screenshot the problem right before the cmd page dissappears" so it says Java Home is not set to valid java installation.

What I dont understand is the previous version had no problem to open it. Java home still in the EC-APPS as JavaSoft/JRE/1.5.0_22 and I opened the current Start_FSTool_v2_CarServer.bat with notepad. It says

SET JAVA_HOME=C:\EC-Apps\JavaSoft\jre\1.6.0_22

Additionally

echo. Please set JAVA_HOME to your Java directory (Version greater or equal 1.5)

I even edited and changed to :

SET JAVA_HOME=C:\EC-Apps\JavaSoft\jre\1.5.0_22

But No luck! So annoyed with this very simple task

UPDATE :

I don't know how but after trying about an hour I was able to run the correct version with Java and I was able to activate the 6F

All I need to do is wait for the cable and connect from CIC to trunk. Everything is in the menu. I also checked the combox version. Luckily seems like it is the latest version.

Thank you so much

What exactly does $644 do differently than $639?

$639 is Bluetooth + SOS via TCU. $644 is enhanced Bluetooth via combox.

I have finally done everything and Everything is up running.

I had to use my daughter's iPhone to activate the Apps and it works like a charm.

But I thought you can use the apps without the phone is connected.

Yes, I definitely think it's more of a road trip feature than daily commute feature. It's nice to be able to push addresses to the navigation from the phone, and switch playlists on long drives... but most days I prefer to just use Bluetooth.

Well I have just purchased an iPhone 5s from Ebay just for the car I will let that phone to connect my hotspot on my phone, that way Apps can be on during my driving session. Not necessary at all but its nice to see apps listed and working tho

But I am really surprised no one came up with the idea running the Androids when CIC was hot.

I was able to make the combox work successfully. Does the combox Bluetooth name reflect the last 5 on the VIN? How do I change that?

Just kidding! Forgot to recode the MEDIA in ncsexpert

Does anyones SOS button randomly turn on green solid for two seconds and then turns off randomly while driving it? I didn't tap the CAN high and CAN lo wires to the PDC.

Hmm, I personally haven’t seen that, may one someone else here has. The lights are wired directly to the combox, maybe one of the LED wires is shorting?

Mine does this.

I just ignore it since I coded out sos errors after my combox retrofit.

Thank you for the write up! Very detailed. After everything is all said and done, I'm only getting artist name, album name, and title but no album art when streaming over Bluetooth. Is this normal, or is there a way to get the display to show it? Thanks again.

That is normal, Bluetooth does not transmit album art (it’s not in the A2DP protocol at all so no current standard headunit can do it). You can get album art if you hook up the phone to the combox via USB (6FL).

There is also an option for an MMI unit that provides wireless CarPlay from kersermino I believe. I have not tried this.

Whats the audio connection between the unit and the vehicle? The ones I've seen are going over the aux connection.

The original unit I used was AUX and an external mic. The latest one they sell uses the combox Bluetooth audio for streaming and utilizes the factory BT for OE mic use. It's still a little wonky but they are confident they will be able to fix it in an update. They are from Shenzhen so the corona virus kinda halted them.

It's about $300-$400 for the module. I had to upgrade to combox too so add another $200-250 for parts and your awesome guide.

My goal was to have somewhat an OE like Apple CarPlay feel. It is very close to what it is like in my Honda Civic and I'm happy I don't have to have an android unit screen replacement just for Apple CarPlay.
