Can you put the Type 199 on XI models? I thought I remember seeing in the book they weren't for XI models. If you can't does anyone know why that is?

does anybody know how much the 162s weigh? 've been trying to find this online for a couple days now & haven't been able to find anything! I'm basically trying to find out how much the rims & tires together weigh as I'm trying to find out how much shipping costs would be to Virginia...

any help is appreciated!

Today I removed my OEM 16" style 155 wheels to test fit a temporary spare wheel/tire at front and back. The front assembly weighed in at 53 lbs. and the rear at 52 lbs, this includes the 225/50R16 RE050 runflat, and the tires have only about 4,000 kilometres of wear. Weighed on a bathroom scale, nothing high tech, based on the Tire Rack data of the RE050 weighing 28 lbs. each, this puts the OEM style 155 at +/- 25 lbs.

this important statistic helps determine unsprung weight saved wehn upgrading to aftermarket rims and tires.

so, if your stlye 155 (16" rims) way approx 25lbs., can anyone venture to guess what the 'average" bmw 18" rim weighs??

i am trying to calculate unsprung weight savings with lightweight rims.

No experience here, but I would hazard a guess for the OEM 18" wheels at between 28 - 32 lbs. each.
FWIW, I had the summer runflats removed and put non-RFT winters on the stock 155 style 16" wheel.
Weighed the runflats on the same bathroom scale and they came in at 28 lbs. each, matching the Tire Rack data.
This (roughly) confirms the OEM wheel weight at 25 lbs.

The weights are not accurate -- note that the figures are the same for most styles of 18" wheels. Not sure why they do this. My 162s weighed 29 / 31 lbs., but my 193 Ms weighed 24/25 lbs.

This can potentially be a large savings, my swap to winter non-runflats saved 6 lbs. per tire, and I am looking to save 7 or 8 lbs. per tire when it's time to replace the summer RFT's with non-RFT summers.
May not sound like much, but it's unsprung weight, the suspension can perform better with less static load, and, the less weight farther from the wheel center (ie the tire) the better.

Yea, I suspected that the info wasn't that accurate, esp when the Forged 220m M3 19's weighs 0kgs. I knew they were light but, not that light! LOL. I wonder if there is a more accurate source for weights of all BMW rims. I'd like to find out as well.

Got these 199s off the board here. Paid $1200 for them shipped.
$300 for repairs to two front wheels for curb rash.
Well worth it!

WOW! The difference is night and day. I have 161's as well, I am wondering if I should do 199 or 162, I am leaning towards the latter - any opinions?

Should I do a dark tint or that mirror tint like on the pictures of page one of this thread? (it looks GREAT on that color! what kind of tint is that??)
