Mik325, I don't have a specific procedure to follow. I can only look at real OEM like the rest of you guys. I've poked around up in there but haven't pulled the tanks. The starting point is to remove the exhaust. There are 2 corrugated panels covering the active and passive tanks. Pull those and you will have access to the tanks. Beyond this, I don't have any specifics.

Still waiting on the tune as I am trying to combine a work trip to Brampton with a visit to Jarek.
In the meanwhile I decided to put everything back together, completely disabled the SCR system and take the car for a spin.
While I'm now getting 15 DTCs and SES light on, the car behaves mostly normal - no difference in drivability noticed and no limp home mode after 75 miles multiple key cycles.
The only strange thing is that it every now and then heats up the exhaust to 520°C for about 1 minute and then returns to normal exhaust temps around 200°C. Fuel mileage is about 32 mpg.

I want to replace my fuel filter and run the lift pump to bleed the system before starting. Is there a way to use EDIABAS to activate the lift pump? I am not interested in spending money on a BT cable when I have a EDIABAS cable order from eBay, a BT dongle, and BMWhat.

I did also replace the fuel filter while doing this job. Sorry, I won't have access to my Ediabas until Tuesday, but I had no problem starting the car without prior bleeding of the fuel system. Just took a couple of crank attemps.

That's what I'm scared of! According to folks in the "don't fear the fuel filter" thread, dry cranking likely damages the high pressure fuel pump. Most folks on that thread recommended activating the lift pump first to save the high pressure fuel pump.

BTW, I just completed the DPF delete and I printed your tread and had it with me. Fantastic and helpful post.

Uh. Yes, that makes sense. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a job that activates the fuel pump, but it seems to be activated as soon as you switch on ignition. Rheingold mentions to leave the ignition on for 1 minute before starting the car (see attached doc). That's what I did, too. Maybe, I didn't quite wait long enough.

Fuel pump activation is in INPA. Unfortunately, the menus seem to be different depending upon which version you have. I found it just the other day - sorry I'm not able to check it out right now. I know this only partially helps, but if you take a gander I think you will find it without too much trouble?

I'm in the process of taking out the DPF. Lenny did the tune for me yesterday, will report back on the progress/ impressions. For now I have a question:
What did you guys do for the exhaust gasket? The scr mixer, if that's what it's called, was acting as a gasket between the DPF and the rest of the exhaust. What are my options? Thanks in advance.
Need something soon as I'm about to get the dpf out of there

I had tried this method multiple times without success. I like to flush the filter for a bit before installing it back into the system, so I push ~1 gallon through it into a container first. Trying to use the ignition method never resulted in any fuel getting pushed through. I had to use the Bav Tech tool to initiate the pump to get any fuel pushed through. Also used it to prime the rail after putting the filter fully back in. Results in a normal startup without excess cranking.

Anyone know if the BMWhat app will do this as well?

BMWHat does not have a feature to activate lift pump. I just did a redneck method of running 9v/2a directly to it and it worked. Made a mess with a bunch of spilled fuel of course

You can remove the "mixer" portion of the mixer and leave the "gasket" part. Just one of the options. There are commecially available gaskets as well. May be someone can post a part number.

Thanks Yozh, that's a good point about removing the mixer.

As I'm doing it there are a few nuances, regarding the DPF removal, that weren't mentioned in this thread. Could've saved some time, I'll post those once I'm done with this thing. Thanks.

Doing 9mmkungu's downpipe today, I noticed that I didn't post a detail about putting the open connectors (post DPF temp sensor, pre scr temp sensor, metering unit, NOx sensor) in small plastic bags and closing them thight with cable ties in order to prevent them from corroding.
Anything else, please post!

My two cents on the exhaust gasket. I ordered two of them as the hassle of ordering another and having to pay shipping for it didn't make sense. I figured down the road I would need to pull downpipe to do other work. It's just too cheap to not have a spare on the shelf.

Big thanks to Mik325tds, rudzielec, 2deerwhistlers for all the help and support.

I stopped by rudzielec's shop on Thursday and had the ECU tuned. A few days later, I swung by Mik325tds's house and installed the down pipe. Everything worked on the first try.

The exhaust note is very similar to stock; the only perceptible difference is a slight turbo whistle at low speed, noticeable if the window is down. I haven't opened it up, so it might be louder then, but I wouldn't know yet. There is a noticeable increase in exhaust smell as noted by others. It doesn't penetrate the cabin while driving, and didn't seem to enter the cabin while idling at most red lights. I suppose it's possible to smell inside the cabin if you're sitting for an extended period of time, but I didn't test it.

A bit envious of 9mmkungfu - I am going to do the delete but would sure like to have some experienced hands and eyes nearby when I start taking my car apart.

I guess I will need to plan a road trip to the northern parts or I could provide an all expense paid vacation to SC for a few guys to come assist on my car.
