No, but you can click the "track" button to see artist and album for the current song.

So I apologize if this has already been answered, but you do not need to have the BMW Assist subscription for this to work? My 2011 E92 Assist subscription will run out in a few months and I was looking for a way to still have bluetooth without having to pay $199 for another subscription. Thank you!

So my work is "upgrading" our cellphones from Blackberry's to iphone 5s's. At present, I use my Blackberry for Bluetooth and Navi in the idrive and it works great. I have a personal iphone 4 that I plug in using the BMW y-cable in the centre console for music.
In reading all this, can I actually use the new iphone 5s for bluetooth phone and navi functionality like I had with my Blackberry and still get a new y-cable to plug it into the centre console for music? Help

All,
The 30 pin to Lightning adapter is no longer required. BMW have released a Lightning Y Cable: Part Number 61122287642 RealOEM Parts Lookup GetBMWParts |

The DAC in the BMW lightning cable is almost certainly worse than in the Apple adapter. Apple isn't known for skimping on analog circuitry. But I guarantee you that you won't notice one way or the other. You're right that the air-enabler theoretically has better audio quality than the WMA-1000, but it also has nothing to do with Y cables and is thus irrelevant to the discussion.

Hi all
Just purchased a 2010 BMW 320i and love it. Tried, as many would have, to play songs through my iPhone 5S (iOS 7) via the USB port with a standard Apple lightning cable and had the "not supported" message (I have iDrive in my car). This thread has been extremely useful in providing information on how to fix this matter. Just had a quick question re: Y cables. I see that the Y cable Part #61122287642 has been recommended by many in the thread (http://www.getbmwparts.com/parts/ind...&siteid=214672). However, I've seen an alternative on eBay, which is being advertised as an OEM cable as well (http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-BMW-Conn...3D231154337707). My question is whether anyone has had experience with using the eBay equivalent, or if the getbmwparts cable is the way to go. If this is the case, is there a website which sells this cable and does international shipping? Maybe even more useful, if anyone in NZ has a domestic source to order from. I will talk to the dealer who sold me the vehicle for any info that they may have but thought I would ask around the forum first before turning there. Cheers |

Thanks taibanl, I'll go for the cable through ECS tuning in that case then as posts have confirmed it is OEM (http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/61122287642/ES2745149/), and they do international shipping.

I really hate to post this here as I am sure its simple solution. There is just so much info out there and it seems like on some cars things work and other do not.
I am note sure what I have or don't have. New to BMW. Have an 09 E92. It has a USB in the glove box. What is the best solution to stream music wirelessly to this car? I would like it to populate track data properly as well. I have used the Tune2Air on Audi's and it works pretty well. Is this is best option you have all found at this point? Below is my option code list. It says I have hiFi stereo but it isnt logic 7 as I do not have any eq functionality. Again, I am new. Maybe HIFi stereo is BMW's way of saying standard radio. Any help would be appreciated. First, thanks to Jason, Alex, and everyone else that have answered questions on this thread. It is insightful to say the least.
Now, however, I'm still confused. A lot of the information seems to be for MY13 options? I have an MY08 E90 w/o Nav but have 639 and 6FL. Cannot BT audio (A2DP?). Per the chart in the first post it would seem I need the Y cable, but it mentions only F30/E92/E93. Reading the troubles ericgt79 had got my hopes up but Alex' reply created more questions for me... I guess, long story short, all I want to know is am I supposed to be able to control an iPhone/iPod from the steering wheel and see the track info without Nav/iDrive, or is it just charge and aux only? I got a cheap cable off eBay that says it should work however it only charges and relays audio to the aux input. It does generate the "Trust this computer?" popup on my iPhone 6 when in the car so tried the "connect it to your computer" test but it wouldn't see the phone there. http://www.ebay.com/itm/171244748900...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Any help would be so much appreciated!! |

For example, this cable should work: http://www.amazon.com/Goliton%C2%AE-...ds=bmw+y+cable but I'd get one that costs more like $20 with better reviews, people seem to think that one is cheap. The IMPORTANT PART is that the Y cable has active electronics in it. I'm fairly confident THAT cable will work because it's got a big plastic housing for a PCB and some chips. This is the critical bit that your current cable is missing. On the cable you have, you're getting "accessory not supported" or "plug into computer" because it's connecting directly USB>Phone, rather than what the proper cable does which is USB>iPod Accessory Protocol translator>phone. There's a significant difference. As for E90/92/93, those are all the same, electrically speaking for these purposes. The F chassis is a different ballgame, though I don't personally know how different, again for these specific purposes.

The Y cable you have is the functional equivalent of plugging the phone in via a lighting>USB cord and then also a headphone>aux jack cord (only gets you charging in this car, and shitty, practically nonexistent charging at that).

Thanks, Alex!
I was using this Pioneer cable just to have audio from my 4s (charged from USB and plugged into the aux in) then my work forced me into a 6 so all new cable and under quick time too, so hasty purchase on my part with the cable. I'll get the amazon cable and return/burn the eBay one. I was curious though, I read about this adapter but have no idea what it would be for. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...71&hg=65&fg=95 Thanks again for clearing up my confusion!!!! |

It looks like it's more or less the same cable, but with a high current power injector to handle charging more modern devices at >100mA. The MULF all the way in the trunk through 15' of wire doesn't have the juice to supply more than 150 or 200mA.
Can't quite tell though, don't know what the device-side connection looks like.

Just for clarity, could I get a cable to connect from the USB port on my 2011 E90 and connect it to my non-idrive syetem and play the music and control via the stock headunit?

Hi,
I have recently got bmw f30 320d luxury, which has standard specs VIN : F292820. I have seen that it has following options in the VIN S6AAA BMW TeleServices BMW TeleServices S6ABA Steuerung Teleservices Control for Teleservices S6NHA Freisprecheinr. mit USB-Schnittstelle Hands-free with USB interface 1) Car doesnt do bluetooth streaming, which I want to know if I can enable with some coding? 2) How to get music playlist with connecting apple lightining cable to IPhone 5s, will it display all music and playlist and allow control thru idrive with lightining cable, cause i have seen that it just says unrecognised device and only allows charging, may be it is a fake apple cable, but should it work with lightining cable for music or do I need a Y cable? |
