first time at a track

So I know these times arent impressive at all, but keep in mind that it was my first time time ever running my car @ a track. I know that if i would have been able to make more passes i would have done better than my days best.
My JB3 was set at Map 7 with RR Intake, RR Catless DP's and RR Air Scoops.
1/4 tank of 91 octane mixed with 2 gal. of 100 octane. 09' MT Paddle shifting @6k. DSC inactive.
Auto Club Dragway in Fontana Ca. Temperature was @ high 60's to mid 70's through out the day. Track elevation is 1110.
Im car 6134 the other car was an 08' G37s I ran all passes against him.

First Pass
13.530 at 104.81mph (horrible reaction time!)

Second Pass
13.495 at 106.82(reaction time got worse!)

Third pass(This time on the left lane)
13.195 at 108.12mph(improved reaction time but still really bad)

Fouth pass(final and personal best)
12.940 at 108.73mph(my best reaction time of the day)

Track Staff Screwed up on this time slip my car number comes up as 6132
should have been 6134

I know I know !! My Driving sucks Ass! but im working on it hopefully my next track experience will be much improved.
So what should i be running with the mods I have? (if i improve my driving)
Any Advise Mike?

I have only driven a 335i 2x at the strip. First time (stock 6MT) I ran a 14.0 @ 104. The clutch delay valve still installed...

2nd time (RR-CDV + SSTT) I ran a 13.1 @ 106. I think the RR-CDV made up more of that 0.9 than the SSTT. Car still had small shift delays, especially 3rd to 4th, though WAY less than with the stock CDV in. I think that is mostly due to boost loss during shifting. That same day the clutch blew out. The new clutch seems to have a little less shift delay, but still some is there. I think this car has about a 12.8 @ 108 in it on a good day/driver.

Once again, I am talking about a car with SSTT and RR-CDV, 6MT. July 2008 build with I think 30.0.2 (maybe 29.2).

I went to the track on the weekend for the first time with the car... and I could not for the life of me break anything less than 2.3 seconds on the 60 foot with my Style #230 rims and stock RE050a RFT's. Is this common???

I'm not sure if it was the strip was partly at fault for this, but it was a chilly day (about 5-10 degrees celcius).

I was also running with a full tank of 94 octane gas lol...

13.9 @ 101 was the best time I had all day.

Mods: Injen DCI and Procede v3 rev2.

Downpipes and FMIC are enroute... hopefully this week I'll have them on.

Also, how do you take advantage of the higher octane race fuel that's available at the track??? What kind of mixture should I be looking at? What settings should I place on the Procede? Thx!

I cant believe that you are bone Stock, no way that you are running 107 mph with a 2.1 60 ft. without a Tune.

Sorry bro.

No worries just bring down your 60 foot time and you are in the high 12 or low 13 for sure.

It takes practice but it is possible with Stock Rims to hit 1.9 or 2.0 it just need practice.

Be safe

Reaction time does not factor into your ET. Your ET improvements are independent of the reaction time improvements.

I am car #20 - best run was my first 13.969 @ 99.61 w/ 2.091 60'. The rest I couldn't break past 14, but oh so close!

This was my first time dragging in this car. I've dragged before, but not in AZ. I was mainly staged against, hot rods and really fast tricked out cars. I don't know what to take from this event, I am proud of what I did with a stock car. I was the only BMW in the lanes, rest were fast civics with drag radials, mustangs chucking out 500HP to the wheels and really heavily modded muscles/hot rods. Even for someone that wasn't as experienced at Firebird Raceway, the event wasn't organized well. I wasn't told I needed a helmet, (I would have brought mine) if you go faster than 14.000 you need a helmet. So, I asked around and you'll be amazed at how nice people are to help you find a helmet. Old guys were coming up to me after the runs saying, you just ran a sedan against a modded Nova and won... borrow my helmet. I got that teched, and went on to do 3 more runs before the big boys came out to play. They made me change the numbers on my windows multiple times because of my speed and helmet. The most favorite part of the night was my first run. The look on the guys face when I was keeping up with him in his modded Chevelle. It was classic, I see him look over in a glazed look, like huh? Overall, I will definitely do this again, what a rush! BMW has built a solid car and what an experience you can get from a family sedan. I drove it there, tracked it, and drove it back... not many cars can do this. However, I would like to hear from other autos on their experience or hints, tips, and advice to do better, thanks!

Suck it dude. It's bone stock. I thought it was due to the killer tail-wind at the track that day (my friend ran a 12.94 in a bone stock SRT8 Jeep!!!), but I backed it up with a 13.3 @ 106.38 five days later going into a fair head-wind. The car is that fast; no need to hate.

You obviously don't read many of the other threads in the performance area. I've been posting up a storm about my FACTORY software issues and how I have zero bottom end (hence the 2.1 60' times) since I was flashed from pre-2.29 to 2.33.2. I wouldn't be bitching about shitty factory software if I had a tune now, would I.

Alessandro wasn't referring to the 60' time as the implied factor in my post. ANYTHING in the 2.xx area for a 60' time sucks; it indicates a fairly poor launch/loss or traction. Alessandro was stating that the trap speed of 107mph isn't possible with such a crappie launch unless the car has a tune to make up for it at the far end of the track. Well, I'm tellin ya that it is. I did it sans mods.

Like I said before, I've been complaining for weeks about my factory reflash. Look for my posts in the "has anyone contacted BMW regarding 29.2 and lag...". I wouldn't be complaining if I had a tune.

well then i have to believe you anyways nice driving. Based on my experience when i hit 2.0 60 ft time i trap 112 - 113. compared with 2.2 - 2.3 60 ft time i hit barely 107.

So anyways nice driving skills.

Be safe out there.

Today was first time ever running 1/4 mile(at a track). Gotta say it was a lotta fun. I dont know how much time you lose with a 20 mile an hour wind blowing straight at you, but if I imagine you lose a few 10ths? So whats the next step to get into the 12's running our crappy Cali 91 octane, JB3?

1) Model and Transmission: e92 335i w/step
2) Elevation, Temp and Humidity:sea level,57deg,dont know
3) All performance modifications done to the car:bone stock, not even golf tee mod like lowcruzr
4) Level of gas ran and how much gas in the tank?: 91, 1/2 tank
5) Any weight reduction done to the car??; none
4) Type of tires and rims?? VIP Modular 3pc 10-1/2 rear,8-1/2 front, 275/30-19 & 245/35-19 front General Exclaim UHP, running 43lbs in all tires
5) Years of driving the type of transmission?? too many to count
6) Obviously some type of proof of your 0-60 time, trap speed and finally quarter mile time. Preferably some video or slip or link to the drag time slip website to your direct slip.

1/4 mile time: 13.1 (all three times)
Trap speed: 108mph (best trap)

I lowered the map to map 6 and still ran a 13.19, but trap speed was 106.7mph.

This is a 13.1 @107 on map 7:

I can't find my best run which was 13.1 @ 108mph... I'll keep searching.

Traction control was completely OFF.
I was launching from 1st gear at 1.7k RPM shifting myself 600rpm before redline.
I guess I could have done better if I left it in DS.

Well done considering the head wind! The first mod in going faster would be to lose the million pound wheels at each corner. Slap the factory 18's back on all four corners and see if it makes a difference. I'd be willing to bet it helps.

Wow, those things are heavy... and apparently fast with a JB3. I put mine on the track scale and it came in at 3540 without me in it. I'm only 140lbs (including clothes, sadly) so at 3680 I'm well over 400lbs lighter.

With the JB3 1.3 that I have in now, temps less than 55 degrees, and 1/4 tank of 100 octane only (not 1/2 tank mixed), I'm going for a 12.8 running 2psi higher on the JB3.
That was my first time launching the car like that and at the track, so 12.8 sounds reasonable to me.

What do you think?

I think you can run that!! For giggles on 1 pass, try shifting into 3rd and 4th early. Like, pull the paddle at 5900rpm. My times were quicker when I short shifted 3 & 4 only.
