Yes, unfortunately 300 miles from home. e. was there any other damage caused as a result? AL head stud right behind the thermostat might have popped off from this, small oil leak. Waterpump died at 137k. Original waterpump/TS. DIYed it. Took me about 6 hours with breaks here and there. WP was about 220 and TS was about 80. 300 total shipped for both parts. Lots of cuts, bruises, and sore muscles. Space is extremely cramped and trying to get off stubborn/fused hoses off in limited spaces is not fun. Plus the debris and coolant randomly hitting your face. Not hard at all, just tedious and annoying. Car is running great after the swap and heres to another 137k |

The OCD folks will say replace it right away. I think, just wait until it fails. Having towing coverage is a good idea, or even having the parts in your trunk if you're a long ways from home, but IMO there's no reason to replace it if it's not a problem.
It seems to me like the N54 pumps fail sooner than N52 - how many N54 pumps have gone well over 100k? I'm guessing not many. They are definitely stressed more and it's also a different part. I believe they have a higher flow rate as well. |

My towing coverage is my grandfather having a wrecker i can borrow, but is this something that WILL fail, or does everyone here want to trick me into blowing money (like the belt failing blowing up your engine) |

Take a look at this thread, the poll, and responses. IMO the waterpump is usually good for 70k to 100k. YMMV. I had an e91 that failed at 89k (Original PUMP/TS), but my current e90 just recently failed and it failed at 137k (Original PUMP/TS). I wanted to change the e90's wp/ts out at 130k as it looked like I was on borrowed time until failure, but surprisingly I had the parts but was too lazy to do it. At 137k, boom. Failure. Tow. Lucky I had AAA and the parts were already purchased and sitting in my garage. 5 hours later, I'm back on the road and should be worry free of my waterpump/thermostat for at least another 70k to 100k. |

I am on my second pump and thermostat. 152k miles. Quick history of the vehicle. 1. New engine at 138k secondary to catastrophic failure. (Simply put: manifold bracket was sucked into the cylinder) The previous engine had the pump replaced at 88k. When I swapped the engine I changed the the pump and thermostat. 2. New engine was fit with the following mods: - Active Autoworks Headers - Dinan Throttle Body - AFE A/I - Supersprint exhaust (all sections from headers) - Supersprint Muffler Sounds awesome and runs great. |

I have a 2006 330i 6MT with 180.5k miles. The original pump went about a mile from my house (lucky, I commute 65+ miles)with 178k miles on the clock. I ordered the parts online $500-550, for the pump, thermostat and new aluminum bolts and coolant at BMW Dealer. Knocked it out in my driveway.

===2011 323i E90 110k km ===
Back in Nov 2015 ( Temp really low around -10*c ?) and in Dec 2015 ( -5*c? and snowing ) , fan was running really really loud, and heard it and went to the closest parking spot that i saw, turn the engine off , waited for around 10 minutes , and continued my trip with no problems at all, other than that , I had no overheating symptoms nor dash lights warnings. The BIG question is.... Should a replace my WP and TM as a preventive maintenance ? Ps : I dont have $1000 in my pocket to spend on this preventive maintenance just because "it won't hurt" |
