I am about to purchase the Gold 7/100k, my question is, if we service the car on our own and not through BMW, will they still honor the warranty?

And if they still honor it, how would we reset the clock for oil changes etc?

I can't imagine that they would force you to perform maintenance services at BMW in order to make the extended warranty valid.

I have talked to 3 sales people at BMW when I was shopping for my extended warranty. It was never mentioned as a criteria.

Is it true thesevplans can only be purchased if you are the original owner?
Car is still under warranty but I purchased it from my uncle....

http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte.../Warranty.aspx
Specifically says "original owner"

No, you don't have to be the original owner. People have done it who were not the first owner.

Garage List
So I'm subscribed to most of the extended warranty threads and thought it would be helpful to create a list of parts/components/etc that one would want to ensure are covered.

Some of the exclusionary policies I have reviewed are still too vague for my comfort level and BMW seems to have somewhat proprietary names.

It would be nice to have a quicklist of high dollar and/or known to fail issues at hand to check against.

I left off Nav, radio, and other electronics given their obsolesence and high cost.

So far my list consists of....
1. Turbos, turbo assemblies/housing
2. Wastegates
3. Injectors
4. HPFP obviously but covered already to 10/120
5. Headlight assembly (swivel)
6. Sunroof
7. ABS/xdrive

Anything else?

Hey Kruz,

That's a good list, but it's better to start another thread for your topic since this is for pricing only. Once you've created your topic, you can edit your post and add a link to it. I'll also add it to my 1st post to help you drive traffic to it. Thanks!

Tomorrow I pick up my 2010 328xi Coupe. It has 4200 miles but the in service date was 11-09. I know I can wait till right before the 4yr/50K comes up but is there any benefit to getting it extended now? I guess what I am asking is if the prices differ if the car has 4,000 or 40,000 miles while still under warranty? Thanks.

I don't think the price will change with the mileage. The only benefit to buying it when you're purchasing the car is the ability to finance it and make monthly payment on it instead of paying it all at once out of pocket.

you can also do that when you buy it later, my SA told me I can put 10% down and rest I can pay in installments.

Thanks for the info guys. Dont really want to lump it in with my car loan. No sense paying interest on that too. I will probably just go for the 6/100 Gold in a couple years.

These are some really steep prices. Have they gone up? I bought a 7/100 gold back in July, about 4 mos. before expiration of my original warranty. After seeing this thread, lucky I did.

How much did you pay? If you don't mind me asking. Is it for your 335i?

I have been looking online for extended warranty options and I found the attached documents which may help you with the pricing of extended warranty and maintenance plan upgrade options.

MPU is Maintenance Plan Upgrade and EVP is Extended Vehicle Protection. The car category list is in the MPU pricing file, here is a snapshot showing the 3 series list:

Extended Warranty Prices:

These are from one of the BMW dealership's website. They are generous enough to show the dealer pricing on the extended service agreements (MPU pricing file), they have a $750 margin on each plan.

I'm also attaching some sample plan contracts with detailed information on coverage.

I can tell you that that grid above appears to be over MSRP. Nobody should pay above MSRP, you can get MSRP from anybody. Keep the prices honest, before your original warranty runs out, have a finance manager at any dealership read your key. A grid with MSRP will be spit out. Once you see those prices, you will have a starting point with which to work with. It's not as easy as buying a new car, but some dealerships will discount 10-20%, sometimes over the phone.

What do you mean? I have a price list from 10/12/09 and mine has the same prices the one he posted.
