In other words ' I'm alright Jack!'.
I was responding to this line

"There are the people who live in the real world, and those that don't"

Which did sort of suggest that you felt my views were not quite as valid as yours

The fact that you think yours are based on the 'bigger picture' whilst mine are selfish and 'blinkered' does tend further this suggestion

But, its not worth getting into a really crap argument / quote war over things so yeah, bollocks to it all - the world sucks, the goverment sucks, life sucks
I like a good debate because I tend to learn more from people who disagree with me than those who agree.

For me the statement followed logically. For you it doesn't, which is interesting. We could debate for hours or not bother. I vote not bother

I guess only time will tell, but I'll be filling up tomorrow night just in case
Back to the OP, Pistonheads reports that the protest has been deferred from Wednesday to Saturday anyhow...

Even if the government are eventually lobbied to reduce duty on fuel, they'll still find ways to extort money from the motorist cash cow somehow!

Yesterday I heard this hair-brained scheme being touted by the Highways Agency ! :sad0147:

What with the introduction of the Low Emissions Zone (LEZ) in Feb 08 for commercial vehicles, I can see this eventually being rolled-out to private vehicles too, if Ken gets his way

As a lot of people will know, I enjoy a good debate. However, I try hard to avoid making personal comments about other forum members when they disagree with me.

jwbmw/ hotcoupe - I feel that the posts above are personal digs and are entirely unnecessary here. You may not care about this, but I would like you to know that I don't appreciate it.

My posts in this thread have been perfectly polite and reasonable. Disagree with them by all means, but please don't make it personal.

Agreed.

There is no need for any personal comments at all.

I think you all need to have a stiff drink & calm down.

I was lucky-enough to be able to access any available fuel source during the 2000 blockades, but now, I couldn't really give a sh*t if I ran out of petrol or not. I'm simply not going to worry about it.

To put things into perspective, none if this is anywhere near as important as this month's Photo Competition, because if you carry on with this 'argument', then all three of you will simply be barred from entering the competition, irrespective of your views on the possible blockade this weekend, ok.

Perhaps you need to look in the mirror before making accusations of personal digs. I was fed up with the thread as it was not a rational debate and I actual sympathized with you (though do not necessarily agree with your view point) hence my first post. You then decided to have a go with a message that you removed through the edit facility.

Viv - Please do your homework first

I didn't have a go at anyone in any of my posts least of all you.

The only message, that I think you could be talking about is the one you replied to here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...9&postcount=69

I can't see how this could be interpreted as a personal attack and I thought that the the big 'smiley face' at the end made it pretty clear that it was meant in jest.

I deleted it before you posted your reply, because I felt that the capital letters stood out to much.

Your response to me was a personal and derogatory comment. This is distinctly different.

As an aside, I think this was a perfectly rationale debate, especially the discussion I had with Evil Diesel, which I enjoyed.

I think one of the downsides to written communication (email and forums) is that humour or tongue in cheek might not necessarily come across very well or even at all (the smilies do help), but I often find that people say things in written form that they wouldn't dare say face to face with a person. Some people communicate better than others in the same way that some are more sensitive to comments than others - c'est la vie!

I do agree with Viv though... "I couldn't really give a sh*t if I ran out of petrol or not. I'm simply not going to worry about it."

I accept that your posts could have been meant in good humour, but in the same way you did not read mine correctly (which could have been down to my grammar). I was not refering to you as the megalomaniac and was making comment in relation to your entire forum words.

Lets leave it at that.

I thought personal digs were to be aimed at carlos only??!!!!!

Anyway, I am split on this! i do think the duty we are expected is too high as we the motorist see nothing in return.

If we saw an increase in public transport, efficient roads and a fair infrastructure that allowed for alternatives to be used then yes i will happily pay

but....

We see none of this we pay over the odds insurance as the govt cannot control the to55ers of this world via police etc (all paid by the taxpayer)

We pay road tax that again is needless and then all the duty on the fuel.

oh yes and the tax on the purchase of the car or for us co. drivers bik.

i do feel we the motorist are paying for the debts/spending of the govt and it is a convnient stealth tax that we all must pay.

So what about the protest? bit of a wet sponge I feel, if action is required then for god sake block every refinery and force the govt to their knees and give us a break!!

see what i mean....split

Strangely, I find the exact opposite to be true, Gordon.

There again, I give as much as I get, both face-to-face & in forums!

Thank you very much for your response, which I appreciate.

I wasn't entirely sure if the comment was aimed at me and if this was not the case I apologise.

I am more than happy to leave it there
