damian, my m3 rings came today. any chance of a tip for doing taking the old rings off and putting new ones on? have heard its a nightmare and dont want to damage anything

Exactly. Although I had to adjust length of mine because first wasn't engaging the clutch and the car didnt start!

Defiantly cut the bottom plastic loose first and dont take the rings out until the plastic is chopped off! Otherwise the silver paint of rings will tear onto inside of the screen!! Also would recommend to use a dremel as knifes etc. could be quite tricky and you'll end up using a dremel anyway.

I did it mate earlier. I used appliers to pull off the bottom tabs on both side. When I yanked applier I scratched my effing glass on the inside so I have a hairline mark which has pissed me off badly. Once I cut them off tho I found a easy way to get them out I bent them out if it makes sense

You can remove the mark and swirls/scratches with regular toothpaste and scrub with with a towel. It requires some work and its messy and fiddly, but it depends how much it annoys you.

So, Red airscoops. Not in everyones taste but I like them. Takes less then 5 minutes to install and are reasonably cheap. 40 quid for mines.

As usual, forgot to take half of the photos. Excuse the dirt!

Cool. They certainly made a difference when dyno'd on the E60 M5 as they helped to direct more air flow through the filters.

So, so massive thanks for Makkan00 who hooked me up with a full CIC set-up with combox, pre-coded. Perfect. He also provided me with plenty of information and basic made this possible for me as I'm installing this kit myself!

Not yet anyway! Plan is to install the amp and the JL audio as well and for that I bought the parrot quadlock with 5m loom. New speaker cables and once Ill be fitting CIC Im also tempted to go for pair of SWS-8X with adapters so Ill be done with stripping the car.

As of my dad's an upholsterer, Ive spoke to him on some Extended Leather style passenger door handles and obviously he can do this for me for free and use scraps of leather as the plastic piece is small enough. Hopefully it'll be OEM look, thats what we're hoping for. Will post photos obviously.

As of getting other parts for my CIC install, in the meantime I bought some Carbon badges as the blue ones were too boring and defiantly were too flashy with its blue. The steering wheel badge is a sticker one, but from what I read its the only way to go and it actually looks surprisingly good. I was worried for it not to stick out too much but it defiantly doesn't.

It finally came to that! I've purchased and installed very be-waited CIC system with combox. With huge help of makkan10, I've managed to get this all installed and working myself and Im no professional.

Had some trouble and process took a while and it was more than I expected, but thats about right with any job I do! Other then that, system is great and can't believe of how much it changes the car. Finally its pleasure to use the system and everything is so smooth.

Also I love the HD screen and how the audio quality improved as finally I can use lighting cable rather than AUX.

I tried to take as much pictures as I can although I was mostly focusing on getting the job done.

Day 1

Taking trim off


Taking loom out


Headunit out


Display cable - pins need to be swapped to new blue connector


Old connector vs New

Pins swapped. I've used other forum threads to guide me.


Old display cable out, new cable in.


New display connected and installed.


Glove-box out, usb cable through and tested.


Loom ready for emulator to be installed.


Glove-box usb in.


Glove-box usb connected.


Glove-box installed back in, cup holders bolted back in.


Ready to install the new headunit.

Cutting the plastic off so the connector could fit.

Pins swapped, was a bit of a hassle. I regret that I didn't buy the loom but at least learned something new.

Day 2

As of everything working, I've decided to put back the trim so headunit bolted in.


Trim was nicely cleaned and installed back on.


Connecting the climate control back.


Climate control installed.


New trim going in.




New USB socket in glove box will be installed.


Cable coming from the combox, hidden under the carpet.


For me, it was a NIGHTMARE to get the cable through the carpet, to the glovebox.


New socket in.


Since had some spares, I did extra sound deading.




Day 3

I had to swap pins in the combox connector so the whole install only got finished today.


Maps working nicely.


Loving the audio with artworks and Spotify support.

Thanks mate! Well, CIC isn't an cheap install, although for the improvement and overall fit and finish, I think it's worth it.

The total cost for mine including postage price was around £1200. And thats coming from great prices, from makkan10. My unit was pre-coded to my car so that was great.

I must say that it is a hell lot of work and doing it first time can be intimidating. Kudos !!! you done it!
A word of caution.... Never ever take all the pins out of CID (display connector) at one time. If you turn on the car by chance and Can low and high touches each other, you will be looking to buy a new junction box, plus coding and lot of hassle.

Other than that, WELL DONE!

if you think you had a lot of salt in the intake with air scoops that were facing down, wait until you travel down the motorway with what effectively is a nice receiving hood! Then you will get some salt in the air filter.

I would suggest summer running of the air-scoop, and OEM for winter. Im sure thats why they are designed the way they are. Less chance of road material and FOD getting in there.
