Sant Pod meet results and pics.
Hi guys
Ysterday SerJames, Tony and myself made the trip to Santa Pod for a RWYB DAY. I also travelled up with some friends who ran there E36 M3 EVO, 2.0 CORSA and a Audi S3 (280bhp) It was a sunny day altho slightly nippy. Got very busy after 10 clock. Me ready to run. My mate getting the jump on me at the start of one run. Tony and myself had several runs togther. GOT me scarf on as it was cold. Tony and myself on another run. Tony closest to the camera. Me and the DXB in the distance. Me and my friend in his 2.0 corsa. Tony and I again, they really did look good running up the strip together a 400bhp 335i (SerJames) gettind Annihilated by a Corsa 1.5TD No seriously this Corsa is one of the quickest cars of the day. dud a 12.0@120mph... Faster than Ferrari F430'S I went and had a chat with him and the guy remembered me from 3-4 years ago when we both attended some racing events. A Ferrari 360, AM Vantage, two lambo gallardos turned up and a few 911 turbos. The AM Broke and had to get a truck home the ferrari run a disappointing 14.0@108 The ''Supercar'' pics Results are as follows for our group. SerJames: 13.4@107mph dxb335d: 13.5@105mph E92Fan: 13.7@103mph 2.0Corsa: 14.9@93mph Audi S3 (280BHP)14.5@98mph E36 M3 Evo: 13.5@103mph Now for other times we saw during the day Ferrari 360: 14.0@10something E39 BMW M5: 14.0@108mph Corsa 1.5TD (2.0 230bhp + 150bhp SHOT NOS) 12.0@120 Porsche 911 Turbo: 11.7@ 128mph Lambo Gallardo: 12.6@11something. Was a good day. Carlos

He is in Belguim at the moment, When he gets a chance he can post up his thoughts on the day. We all enjoyed it, and feel we could all have gone a bit quicker. Even so. We were quicker than an E39 M5, and a Ferrari EDIT*********** To be honest G33, the times aint that shy. I am mapped and Serjames is pulling quite a lot on Tony's Stock but quiafed diff on the end of the run. SO thats a big diff from Stock 335i and modded 335i, 3 tenths and 4mph. To put it into perspective, i was 2 car lengths ahead of tony at the end of our runs. Pulling a higher trap and a few mph. So James again is pulling more than me. So if you took off say 0.4 off all our times maybe that would be a better representation? Not sure whether the track was particularly slow or not tho.

Its a 2.0 tuned to 230bhp, it also has a 150bhp shot of nitrous oxide. So all in all 380bhp and weighs about 800kg!! Perspex windows, half a dash, one lightweight bucket seat etc. Carlos

Carlos, great write up and pics. looks like you all had a great day out.
So help me out with a couple of things. Pre map last year you were about 13.7, 13.8 ish?? and now with a map 13.5. What were the conditions on both days. Yesterday I guess was about 6 degrees no wind and dry. Did the car run quicker as the morning dew went or no difference. Last year what were the conditions?? The E39 M5 is interesting at 14.0. On the Dyno day in December one of the guys at Marlow Motorworks said they had been disspointed by a couple of these than only put out about 340bhp vs the 400bhp quoted so they were mega impressed by the 335i's and d's on the day and ok an auto is maybe easier to launch at the pod but this kind of backs up their experience. Also on the mapping front a friend had their fabia mapped by Simon from E maps last week and he said that all VW engines are programmed to only put out 90% power in the first 5,000 miles to protect at the start. This might be why Hotcoupe and Evil put out less than yours on the day if BMW have a similar programme built into the ECU as both cars were about 2000 miles in. The stock 335i / 335d from your evidence really hold there own and from your fair tests of acceleration they are really top cars. I am sure a map on the real world adds to drivability no question but overall 0 to 100 it does not seem to make that much difference (no insult intended) Catch a Ferrari 360 not on there game of a roundabout on a dual carridgeway with a manual or a tricky e gear and they are going to be embarrased. The 911 997 Turbo is a monster from personal experience and is so bloody quick it's unreal and your numbers back that up. Once again great pictures

Would be interesting to run the an M3 against the 335d there sometime. Just curious to know the difference, the outcome is obvious. |

Carlos, are you sure you can beat a Ferrari & M5 when on closer inspection the Corsa seems to have a standard 1.2i engine? and it appears to be ahead of you on the pics?
