There is a 30 minute to one hour delay, so you are probably correct. I am not at my computer with AIS at the moment (I am in the kitchen and it is on my home office on the other side of the house), so I can't see what you are seeing. CL is probably in the Pacific anchorage and getting ready to head north.

Thanks for the info. I was just guessing they went red if they had stopped for a really long time and yellow if they had stopped for just awhile. Do you know what the green and yellow really mean?

What do the color coded triangles mean? Green - Vessel sailing at 0.5 knots or faster Yellow - Vessel stopped or sailing at less than 0.5 Knots Red - Ship sailed beyond our coverage area or (rarely) have switched off their AIS temporarily. The signal was lost between 15 and 30 minutes ago and will be removed from the chart after 30 minutes. |

I am not at my AIS computer, but if someone with AIS can read this ship's name on the web camera right now, then look on the AIS map, then you know the amount of delay on AIS.

I must be missing something, but it seems that they could move ships through the locks faster if they sent them through in one direction and then without emptying the locks they sent one through in the other direction. It must not take them much time to fill or empty the locks or it is too hard to move departing ships out of the way of arriving ships. I wonder if they do any coordinating of water transfer in the side-by-side locks. Large pipes between the two could really equalize water levels pretty quickly - only then would they need to turn on the pumps.

I think I was looking at the southern locks. The ship could well be the Ever Diamond and if so the ais is pretty darn current. Kassel will probably be next after Cougar Ace.

Although, that AIS shot could be when they went through the first step down lock, which is in the far distance from the current camera view we are seeing now. In reality, the camera view for Ever Diamond could be in the location of CL that you see on the AIS now. Do you know what I mean??

It is confusing, but this camera view we are seeing now is the second step down of locks. In the far distance is the first step down. And, you can see those two corresponding steps on the AIS map.

It is so much harder to see these ships at night. I hope they put her in the near lock so we can see her better. If it were daytime, we could see which lock she is headed for.

Isn't that hi-res camera cool? You can see the water stirring in the lock. Last week, there was a big party on the roof (in the foreground--it is blacked out now and you can't see it), but it was funny to watch this big party with decorated tables and people all dressed up. And all these huge ships were just passing by. . like no big deal.

Back for the moment. Could this be K coming in now. I assume K is not through yet, based on how far ahead Chiriqui and White Shark were/are on ais.
