all i have now is replacement car 323i
Most likely they have ordered a new control module which they believe should rectify the problem. They wouldn't order "Chips" as electronic hardware is not repaired because they dont have the technology to diagnose at chip level at the dealership and even if they did, they dont have the expertiese or equipment to replace chips. Another thing they might be doing is waiting for Germany to release updated software code that they beleive will elliminate the problem. Either way, as much as it's fruastraiting, blood boiling and damm right annoying, have faith that the problem will eventually get fixed. Just remember the people at the service center did not engineer the cars and the last thing they are trying to do is aggrivate you.

My guess is that they will bill you for the tyres later. However, given the inconvenience you have gone thru, they may decide to waive the charges as a gesture of goodwill. I would suggest if you don't hear from them soon, then don't mention the tyres again.

I hope the problem is finally resolved. Good Luck!

Try to re-pair the phone i.e. delete your current connection and then re-set it.

Bluetooth can be a funny animal.

Looks like another trip to the dealer unfortunatly. While we are on the bluetooth subject, my bluetooth unpairs and then pairs on and off if it's a really hot day, cars been sitting in the sun and then start driving for over 30 min. I've had the module replaced once but I suspect that the problem is the module over heats cause it's located under the matt in the boot. When I touch the case it's really hot. Now that the weather is getting hotter, it's starting to play up but unless the module is relocated, this is not an issue that service is able to fix.

Bugger.

Mine decided to give me the pad warning again on Friday, mind you I was at Oran Park spending most of my time drifting around the skid pan Also my handbrake does not allow me to do handbrake turns, I wonder if this is a valid warranty claim

I'm thinking of removing the sensors from the pads and cable tying them under the car, as long as they don't earth then they should not give a warning / error light. CBS works on mileage so that would not be effected, only thing is once the pads are almost fully worn you would not get the warning to get it serviced.

Of more concern is I have now had 5 half engine limp modes. Generally occurs at the top of 3rd gear, when running stock under WOT.

Had the 1st code read last week after it happened the 1st time while giving an RS4 a spanking, and it's to do with Vanos oil pressure or something similar... told not to worry and come back if it occurred again. Happened on the way to Oran Park last Friday and then 2 x while at the track. Then once on Sunday and again this evening Also car is running a little rough, especially notice it at idle.

Anyway off to the $tealership later this week for more in-depth diagnosis.

Sorry to hear that the problem has recurred. I assume your car is stock and you don't have any mods that can potentially affect the problem.

If this was my car, this is what I'd do now.

I'd follow up the previous letter with another letter to BMW Australia. This will hopefully put pressure on BMW Aus and the dealer to make all the necessary resources available (even if they have to fly engineers in from Germany) to properly diagnose the root cause of the problem and fix it. I would advise them that they can have the car for as long as it takes (subject to a suitable loan car being provided for the duration of the repairs). I would also put them on notice that unless the car is fixed, then I do not want it back, as it would reasonably be considered a lemon, or worse still, a safety hazard. After 7 (+1) attempted but unsuccessful repairs over a period of 10 months (and counting), would anyone be able to guarantee that the problem is a false positive, and that the brakes won't fail?

I assume the first 6 repairs were quick (1 day jobs) and the 7th repair took about a month. If the 8th repair takes 3 months, so be it. The problem is turning out to be an obscure one, so give them the leeway to investigate all avenues.

If the problem recurs after this, then I'd send a letter of demand to BMW Australia requesting that they either take back the faulty car for a full refund, or replace it with a new car of equivalent specifications. I'd also file a complaint with the Office of Fair Trading (and as a last resort, seek legal advice).

Thanks for the helpful advice, and I been thinking to take this seriously. I'm planning to make a complain tomorow with fair trading. I believe I bought a manufactured faulty car, bought so expensive car and get lemon car. i wont be bother if i bought hyundai, but this is B M W ( Be My Wife), and all i got is headache.

the last repair was took them 5weeks at BMW sydney. I would love full refund or replacement new car LOL.
I have no clue how long this is going to takes for them to repair. Bought this from BMW artarmon, but they closed down already, much been easier if they still open.

this xmas im planning a trip to melbourne, If I still dont have my car yet, Can I drive this replacement car? X3 replacement are brand new, its only 6kms when pick it up yesterday, and today its already 130kms

I don't think that it would have made any difference if Alto Artarmon were still a BMW dealer. The fact that you're now dealing with BMW Sydney is actually a plus, as they are owned by BMW Aus.

You should use the replacement car as you would your own (within the law of course). The only things you are liable for are fuel, any speeding/parking fines incurred, and any Insurance excess (usually $2,000 but may be more) in the event of an accident, or other insurance claims (like the tyre blowouts).

If your car is going to be in service for a while, and if you'd prefer to drive to Melbourne in a 3 series (or another model) rather than an X3, then you should contact the Service Manager and ask if they would swap it out. They don't have to, but provided they had a suitable loaner available, then I don't see why they wouldn't swap it out.

Personally, I wouldn't contact any media (and they probably would not be interested anyway, unless you have exhausted all avenues).

I still believe that BMW will come good by either fixing the problem, or if they can't fix it, by replacing the car. Just put them on notice that you don't want the car back unless it is fixed, and then give them the space to do their thing.

If you want help, the media will burn you and spin it into a story '$100k car not good enough for whinging yuppie!'. Your best bet is to get a decent solicitor to write a letter on your behalf and advise you of any legal rights you have under the contracts you've entered into and the representations BMW have made. (The problem you may have is to drag Alto into this, yes they don't sell BMW's anymore, but the business still exists.)

If they remove the sensor on the brake pads, How can I find out? I'm afraid they might remove it and there will be no more warning lights on the brake. Are they allow to do this things?

I just received phone call, and been advised the car is ready and it wont happen again Bla bla bla. Or they quickly fix it just in order to get the X3 back asap?

They would not remove the sensors, BMW techs basically will not do anything to make a car 'non-stock'. To give you an example I asked if they would hard wire my GPS and they refused.

BBQwer,

I just got off the phone with my SA, as I indicated mine is in there for similar reasons + another issue related to the vanos system.

Basically our cars have a 2 stage brake wear sensor. It's this 2 stage aspect that allows the car to have a mileage estimate on how much longer your pads will last, versus the old method of 1 stage which is 'your pads are worn, please replace'.

What they are doing with my car, and yours as well from the info I received, is replacing the 2 stage sensor with a single stage version. What this means is you won't get the 'mileage countdown' but simply a warning that your pads are worn and please replace.

This isn't any less safe as the sensors are still there, they just don't give you a mileage estimate. Realistically not that important as the brakes will still work and when you get a warning it will actually mean your pads are worn - but you will still have ample pad material left to make a booking at a convenient time.

Hopefully it will sort out the issue once and for all for both of us.

Cheers,

S
