So I stopped at a Husky gas station in the GTA to check out the ethanol content of their 91. Turns out it still contains up to 10% ethanol according to the disclaimer on the pump. Not sure if this is applicable to all of their gas stations.

I contacted Husky customer service through their website, and they confirmed in their response that Octane 91 is infact ethanol free!

I will have to give it a shot next time I'm filling up.

My 335 only gets either Shell 91, Esso 91 or Chevron 91. Reasons for that;
Back in my previous days with the Subaru scene, my car spent some serious time on one particular dyno getting tuned. The tuner could tell if I had Petro-Can 91, Husky 91 or Co-op 91 fuel in the tank. It was brutally obvious that those fuels weren't as efficient in knock prevention (especially in the winter), and I'd loose on average 5-10 HP right across the graph due to the car needing to pull so much timing. We even went as far as doing back to back pulls on the same dyno after draining the tank and refuelling with Shell, and sure as "poop", the car didn't need to pull as much timing which resulted in more power. Now, just the other day I was down at the bimmer dealership and one of my friends came in with a newer John Cooperworks Mini.. he said his check engine light came on, and the car felt like it was sluggish. The code the dealer pulled from the ECU was either a knock out of limits or a misfire. I asked him if he'd just recently fuelled up, and he told me that earlier in the day his wife filled up the car at the local Petro-Can.. I told him to add some octane booster and go for a drive to burn off the tank of fuel, then refill with Shell. Three days later he sent me a text saying the cars power was back and everything was groovy again. There's something up with those companies additives and turbo-charged cars not behaving well together. If it came down to an emergency situation, I'd add Petro, Husky or Co-op.. however I'd only add enough fuel to make it to the next Shell, Esso or Chevron station.. But hey, it's your car, add whatever you want to tank. |

BMW says it recommends 91. Is it recommended minimum 91 and I can continue to go with 93 or it's better strictly stick to the recommendation and switch to 91?

Fuel cap said 89, so I thought I'd try a tank. Engine runs fine, but I notice a drop in fuel economy. Going back to 91 next.

Up until recently I exclusively used shell V power or chevron 94 in my F30. I got a Costco membership not too long ago and filled up there a few times. I've noticed that the engine isn't as torque-y and sounds a little gentler with the Costco gas. Has anyone noticed this? I'm going back to V power or chevron 94 after this tank to see if it's just in my head or not.
