Replacing the battery did not fix.

Taking it to the dealer on the 4th to get all the ECU's updated and reset. $275. Worth it at this point IMO.

good luck

my revs bounce at idle when i apply approximately 2-4% throttle, but driveability has been unaffected

injectors, plugs, map sensor, vanos -- nothing fixed it

Wish it only affected idle. Affects drivability too, for me.

small problems like these are why owning these cars out of warranty sucks. I haven't focused on it must because i don't want to blindly throw money at the car without a guaranteed fix. The parts i replaced were going bad to begin with or i wouldn't have touched anything beyond plugs and coils.

thanks for going the extra step to diagnose this. I think it's a common issue that a lot of people like myself just "let go" because it has been impossible to pinpoint

I hear you and am in a similar spot...don't really regret replacing the stuff I did ...I'm a tenacious bastard, tho' and am going to get to the bottom of this...

Gonna smoke test today just to make sure there are no unmetered air problems.

If that doesn't work, I think I'll disconnect the boost solenoids one at a time just to see if something is going on there.

Sorry about the car...awesome about the garage!

Mine has stayed pretty much the same...a pebble in my shoe...I'll keep posting as I try stuff. Gotta stumble across the answer at some point...

Just for fun, take some readings on your new battery, with engine off, on, idling. Just to make sure it isn't maybe the alternator or the monitor.

12.18V off. 14.09V Idling.

Got a new shadow code today though...29E1! No SEL. So I will now focus efforts on bank 2. Gotta be air (unlikely), fuel (bad injector?) or spark (just replaced plugs so coil).

Something is wrong when you *hope* for an SEL and a misfire code pointing to a specific cylinder...

What is your stft and ltft whIle idling and while 2-4% thottle. If it gives you bank 1 and bank 2 stft and ltft post all the values. The car will have to go into open loop before the stft and ltft will start adjusting, so if you start the car cold it may take a minute or two what I'm looking for is a general trend at idle it should be pretty easy to see but at 2 to 4% throttle it may vary and fluctuate a lot

Maybe something fell into your engine during an oil change, like a Hunger Games figurine or a spatula, or an old Master Lock from your high school gym class.

I worry about it every time I do an oil change.

Did you register the new battery?

link to datazap on 1st post. Yes, they vary in time with the RPM changes.

I'm missing an old Gizmo figurine from the movie "Gremlins"...this all makes sense now!

Yes. used the tool in Carly. Wouldn't have mattered, actually. Battery was nearly identical parameter wise (92 vs 90 ah, 850 vs 900CCA - Bosch brand).

Well, the plot thickens, as it were. Car at dealership. During firmware upgrade/recoding CAS would not reboot and I'm told I'll need a new one. Over a grand to reinstall/reprogram. Not sure if(or how) this may be related to my issue but I have noticed reduced range on my key fob and irregular comfort access door handle sensors so maybe it was failing. SA says he sees about "1 in 50" fail like this.Lucky me.

Problem appears to be solved!!!!

Only problem is that I don't know if it was the ECU reset or the CAS replacement that did it. Gonna drive it in stock mode for a while before reflashing to MHD and Alpina.

SA only charged me for the CAS replacement so I got the coding for free. So there's that.

Of note, I have a Y connection for my ODB II port so I can leave my DCAN to usb cable hooked up all the time and have everything routed nicely in the dash. SA said that could have contributed to the CAS coding failure. Not sure I buy that but I'll unplug it before taking to the dealer next time.

I have an appt. with the dealer later this week - is there any information specific to the ECU upgrade that you can share so that I may have the most amount of details to pass on? Version numbers, detailed description of work done, job codes, etc? Things I can use to speak in terms the service writer / tech might understand?

Andy.

Garage List
cwarren brought his car by my house today and I reset all of the modules to default with NCSExpert and then reset his adaptations. Apparently his car was really bad and on the way home it was fine. Hopefully he can chime in... I used the recovery profile and blank man to reset the modules to default and then with INPA I cleared codes and reset all adaptations.
