Okay - summers now on (PS2's on VS7's). It's screaming "lower me". KWV3's in next week

i have to agree i am EXtremely disappointed in the OEM xi suspension. the car feels so heavy and a lot of body roll! i am an aggressive driver but will not track the car so thats also why i went with H&R.
i really hope i made the right decision with the H&R coilovers and they will tighten up the car more.

so I would assume the H&R suffer from the same plight. The KWs can stand to be tightened up a little bit more for daily driving for my taste (Former 350Z driver) and definalty much more for the track so I'm happy I got the KWs in the end.
jgalaxy with that statement above when you say they could stand to be tighted more, can they be so you get the 350z feel back? i am assuming the dampening and rebound would do that.

Based on my driving style the H&R would have not made the cut. The 350Z was a harsh and very precise ride, but fit my personality and driving requirements perfectly (in retrospect kudos to Nissan for a great suspension build - Booo to BMW who missed the mark on the XI). I never really drove or cared for fast straight line, but looked to handling for corners and more technical aspects of driving having come from sports bikes. Rebound and dampening will need to be adjusted to get me where I want to go. The next few weeks will help me out as I tweak the suspension for my daily driver thrill mode and race track mode.

I wish I was abe to feel the before and after of 335i with sway bars. The car still lumbers into and out of corners. I'm still trying to feel this beast out. I'm thinking sway bars are also needed to balance and flatten the car out into/out-of the corners. I'm still just a noob and likely need more time in the cockpit before understanding it all. But you know how it is, you know what you feel, and it just dont feel right yet.

If anyone has some input, advice or sage words I'd love to hear it.

Peace.

PS: No f'ing regrets. Performance dudes dont waste your time with anything less than the KWs.

Bump for updates. Are you guys who installed the KW 3's still enjoying them? I ask as these appear to be the option for the 335xi. Steve Dinan confirmed at Bimmerfest that Dinan has no plans for the xi suspension.

Anyway I was reading a R & T mag recently and came upon this recent review of an HPA Audi TT (565 HP). Anyway, HPA included KW v3's in their $60,000 tuner overhaul.

http://www.motortrend.com/features/p..._2008_audi_tt/

A pretty good endorsement I'd say.

Terry - I'm hoping to get my V3's installed this week. I'll let you know when it's done.

I really enjoy my new shocks. Night and day. The OEM shocks were aweful. I had mine set to the KW's recommneded settings. I like a very sporty ride, so I'll likely stiffen things up a little bit for daily driving and a wee bit more for the track. If you want to make any changes you have to either cut a hole in the trunk by each chock tower and retro-fit some form of closure for for the rear or disassemble your trunk each time. Both prospects arent pleasant - worse if you live if winter wonderland half the year.

jgalaxy and Jim, from whom did you buy your V3's from? I assume that I should order them up from the states and then find someone local to install them? Would said local installer likely refuse to install something they didn't sell?

Jlevisw.com

I had a local race shop install. 4 hours for install and adjustment. I will need to go back to stiffen up a little more and to remove some negative camber.

Thanks guys!

**********s.com is advertising these right now for $2,053.42 v. $2,405.00 at Jlevisw.com, is this right?

I'm going to call around town tomorrow about potential installers.

Jim you need to explain to the tuner that you have lined up that I am waiting on your review.

I think the price of $2,405.00 at Jlevisw.com is for the M3 versions...For the V3s, it should be $1,364.00 + $599.00 = $1,963.00

back on topic, congrats on the KW's. I finally just finished my install and major help to spool and orb for their input...how much are most of you guys lowering your car? (in mm from center of wheel to top of the fender).

All the other adjustments go by clicks so you can keep track of them where as the height doesnt seem like it has any sort of measure besides taking a measuring tape to the wheel but then you have to eyeball how much to spin the spindles on the spring perches.

What are you boys doing to acheive the perfect drop? (keeping both aggressive looks and performance in mind)

Terry - the quote I got for V3's delivered to tuner in Calgary was roughly $2,500. Keep in mind that even if you can order them from jlevis in the US for under $2K, the product isn't made in the US hence you're looking at paying another 15-25% in duty, taxes and shipping *to Canada*.

Hov - how did you manage to get the rear damper torqued down *last I saw you still had movement / noise on one side*?

I bought mine from Ron************ and it was a better deal than the above. Now just waiting from them to be shipped...hopefully in less than 2 wks.

Keep in mind the numbers I quoted were for drop ship price to Western Canada. The border Nazi's gouge us with taxes and duty ....

turns out i needed to use more of the OEM hardware which included a spacer that helps when you're torquing down the top bolt. Before it would just tighten and tighten, but with the spacer it actually stops once its tight all the way to the spacer. Just need to find some height settings now... btw, you can still see the top of the strut (that peaks through the trunk) move a little over bumps but I'm assuming thats normal. I have nothing to compare to because I never checked out the OEM struts before under all that trunk lining
