Why does a transmission tune need to know how many turbos Im running? |

Single turbo cars make more power up high and less power down low so the ST flash won't shift until near redline, and probably downshifts at higher rpm too. The stock turbos 'run out of puff' above 6500 (arguably) so you want to shift to the next gear before redline. |

Hey guys, the only choice it gives me to select is the single turbo V1.2 under stage 3?

Has anyone that had the infamous go into 4th or 5th gear in WOT and the tranny kicks out and the paddles don't work and then kick in delayed.. then if you continue to run hard it throws a tranny code.. fix this issue or is the tranny basically on the way out?

So finally pulled the trigger on stage 3 and drove around in D for 80km before anything else for adaptation purposes and here are my early thoughts:
D - Still crap. Not even close to OEM but who cares I didn't buy it for that. S - Meh M - This is where I drive 99% of the time- Up shifts are quite aggressive which is great for hard acceleration but not so good for anything else. Down shifts - I like the rev matching again when driving 'spiritedly' but for normal everyday driving a bit of overkill and also a bit surgy. It's early days yet so i will reassess as the days go buy but I'm not sure at this stage it is worth the cash over the Alpina. As I said earlier, my Manual shifts were super fast with Alpina so it sounds like I was in a minority here. |

I found D mode to be a night and day difference compared to oem. Shift speed and shift points are much better. Also I found it takes closer to 500km to fully adapt.

What exactly is 'adapting'? I asked the guys at xHP about whether applying this TCU flash would affect the way the TCU 'adapted' to our driving. They said that I was imagining things, and that the transmission had in-built number of programs (eg, cold, hill, etc), but no adaptation to driver inputs...

Issue With XHP OTS Maps
hey guys,
I purchased the General Flash License and Stage 3 pack on 9/6 for 135is Coupe. I successfully installed the stage latest v1.3 and have been driving around for a couple of weeks. I plugged in my phone just now and it is saying it doesn't know what version I currently have and that there are no maps available? The app is saying that I only purchased the General Flash license and no ots maps. Anyone have this issue? Edit: Just updated the App to the latest version, plugged it back in and all is back to normal. No idea why that happened. Last edited by thezone135i; 07-02-2017 at 06:26 AM.. Reason: Solved. |

Got the xHP stage 2 on my 335i E90.
Mainly to improve the D mode which is where I spend most of my driving time. I was after a quicker drop in gears when overtaking. I also hated the way the gearbox would seem to have a different shift style from day to day. Initially was impressed with the flash. Changes seemed more 'defined'. However, after a 100km or so, I think the transmission 'adaptation' has taken over again and dulled the gear shifts. I was hoping to have a constant shift style from day to day, but that doesn't seem so. Also it still takes a scarily long time (well seems to), when you need to boot it to overtake someone, or get across a busy junction. Not sure if it was worth $220 in my case. Perhaps M and S modes might be better, but I rarely have time to drive in those modes.

Hi guys, I'm curious to see people's thoughts on the trans flash now some more time has passed. I looked into it months ago but was put off by reported bugs and shifting issues where logs showed the shift points could be causing premature wear. It seemed like they needed to get a few things sorted when it first became available.
It would be great to get some feedback from those who have been using it for a while now. Are the latest flashes worth changing over to? Considering the stage 2 flash at this point. Thanks in advance. |

This only happens for cars putting down quite a bit of power but no I don't believe that part of the shifts has been improved BUT the stock or Alpina calibrations aren't any better for this though.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I flashed stage 3 v1.6 and have been really happy with the result so far. I chose stage 3 mainly for the rev matching on manual downshifts.
Only slight annoyance is the 3-4 shift point in sport mode when you're driving around metro doing 60 km/h. It seems it changes from 3-4 at around 62-63 km/h which causes the car to change up and down a lot. I do 80% of my driving around town in D but the stock flash didn't seem to have that issue. |

The only way to get the best of both worlds is to pay XHP USD$250 to copy and paste my shift maps into the current Stage 3 map (what they call a "custom tune") then pay them more every time a new OTS revision comes out if I want the updates. ![]() |

I'm still not happy with my stage 2 xHP after almost a year with it. When I need to overtake quickly, it takes a while to actually drop 2 gears (despite the indicated gear showing it's dropped, the actual gear change takes ages). I'm sure it's no better than stock.
I'd have thought this was a fundamental requirement for improved transmission? xHP's support just says "get the single-turbo" map (at extra cost!) The only tangible improvement I see is the gear display...

Ive had a couple of people who brag that the auto with XHP is better and then they drive a DCT and re-think it. M Mode on a 335i will be interesting .....soon for me
