And yes, its far more complex... designed and programmed from the ground up for the n54 by Terry and his crew |

I doubt 2 cars will be close to enough to approximate the various configurations others have. After seeing Shiv and my cars on the dyno at the same time, the boost curves are drastically different, even though they are fairly similar. (shiv has exhaust and downpipes over mine) It's one thing to make a car make good WOT power on the dyno, but a whole different ballgame to make that car feel "stockish" at part throttle driving around at a normal rate of speed. Making cars exactly like Terry's perform well is easy, but change a few parts and it is very difficult. A v81 135i with a stock catback, for example, is way more restrictive up top than a v81 335i with a stock exhaust. This makes you run more wastegate duty cycle to get to a given boost target on the smaller car. The JB2 is very simple and won't require the same kind of testing that a fully PID controlled boost control system will, especially to get part throttle driveability to an acceptable state. |

In the post you quoted, I was talking about testing v81 maps... its good to have a v81 car in your driveway to test on as you develop new methods. -Rick |

But no, I hope the JB3 doesn't use factory boost logic, unless you like large (20%) boost spikes! the factory system allows a 1.5-2psi overboost from 6psi, scale that up to 14, and you get a fairly large allowable error (which is why the factory boost logic ain't working with the wick turned up) |

But as far as I know, he is "modifying" the boost control system, rather than trying to recreate it. |

A little info on the boost logic.. The factory system does a very good job of boost control at factory levels. JB3 goes in between the factory PID system and the solenoids to alter the signal under certain circumstances. Like before a spike is going to take place. One way of looking at it is tuning the proportional gain without abandoning the otherwise great factory algorithms. |

Hey guys, here are pictures of our prototype pinout harness and prototype PNP harness. We are still working out the details on netting, shrink wrap, or tape, but you get the general idea.
On the PNP those four connections are all the JB3 requires. Power, ground, etc, all come through them. THERE ARE NO SEPERATE POWER OR GROUND WIRES TO TAP.... ALL TOTALLY PNP!! We are still toying around with map switch options so those aren't shown...but they plug in to the black DB25 connector as well. |

Well, I do know that there will only be 40 pnp units in the first batch... so if anyone wants in on that, your best bet would be to sign up to be notified, and checkout from my store as fast as possible. The next batch could be a while after that, because of a shortage of the pins for the pnp harness.

Rix, this was just asked in another thread....
Will Terry be supporting/providing map updates for the jb3? If so, how will these take place? Will users be able to download and upgrade themselves? Or will they have to send their unit in?

One of the reasons the jb3 isn't for sale yet is because he wants to make sure the maps are "as good as they get"... rather than needing to release map fixes every few weeks to address problems. |

The product looks promising, but I would urge everyone with any type of tune to get an external boost gauge hooked up to verify you are not overboosting.
