Did you wait for them to contact you or did you just phone up when you got the initial recall letter?

Just had the blower letter as well. Don't want my car with those cowboys but I'll have to do it at some point.

I've still heard nothing from my local dealer about it, or even had a letter

No letter here either. There were lots of recall letters delivered by Royal Mail around this area 2 or 3 weeks ago but I didn't get one.

Had my second one yesterday, this one about the blower module... Both letters state not to do anything and they will contact me to arrange once parts are available.

That is of course unless my car starts to ignite itself lol

What are peoples view on giving a car in for this recall if it has been modified? I.e. remap, no dpf, no EGR, aftermarket stereo/speakers/amp...i'm sure some of us on here are in a similar situation...I have a recall letter but nervous about getting it booked in due to the mods...

I have thought about that, I will just make it absolutely clear that they are only to replace the parts in question. They will not have permission to plug a computer and do any software updates etc...

I wonder if they'd sign anything assuming responsibility if my remap disappears lol

Hahaha imagine rocking up with a contract they have to sign before doing any work! That would be quite funny...

On a serious note, I think if we just told them straight up they won't...not like the car is in an official warranty with them or anything. I am more worried about the lack of DPF and EGR...but then again they aren't likely to notice if they aren't directly looking for these things.

I'm genuinely thinking of writing something up lol....... I've heard/seen far too much about dealerships to trust them as far as I could throw them.....

That said, it is a safety recall so they shouldn't be poking around anywhere else unless they've been told to try and recoup some costs......

Personally, I'd rather wait while they do the work. Even if it was all day.

I really don't like the idea of leaving my car with them lol

It's a safety recall.
They HAVE to do it regardless

You guys crack me up lol.

My car has been in for loads of warranty work (and just received my letter for the blower, didn't get one for the battery cable as that's not an issue on my car apparently ) and it being modified has never been an issue.

For something like the blower there is no need to flash the ECU etc or do anything recoding or updates unless they tell you as the idea is to just get your car in and out for this particular fix and move onto the next.

They will only do the recall unless otherwise specified (well that has been the case with me and different dealers over the last 15 years), so you should be ok.

Maybe BMW don't know about you?

I'm the 2nd owner and the BMW Borg didn't know my details as the car hasn't been into a BMW dealer since I purchased it. So I didn't get the initial letter.

I phoned Chandlers in Hailsham and booked in for the recall checks, which apart from the blower regulator plug, were carried out on the day.
Since then I have had 2 letters regarding the safety recall and the shortage of parts delaying the blower regulator plug replacement.

It doesn't have anything to do with whether your car has ever been into a dealership, BMW get vehicle owner information direct from the DVLA so as long as your car is registered to you at your current address, you should get the letters. Mine only came recently so it looks like they are still identifying cars/owners and sending letters.

You're probably correct after reading the letters more closely. I based my comment on Chandlers asking me how I heard about the recall, was it from the TV.
I never had recall letters until after I took the car in.

The letter arrived this morning. Tells me to be patient. Unless it catches fire. Then I should call BMW Emergency Services.
