Diesel motors have those characteristics.
500k miles? Throw in a couple of new turbos & VANOS every 100k miles and you might be right. Something tells me BMW doesn't want you to drive their cars over 100k miles. Now if the motor was the old NA diesels of yore, I'd say 500k should be no problem.

Cheers,
God I hope not. It's take me almost 6 yrs to overcome the price difference of the gasoline powered 335i.

The 335d redlines at 5000RPMs. It doesn't sound like a tractor, but it certainly doesn't sound have the same sound as the 335i. For me the 335d doesn't justify the more expensive price by being more economical than the 335i. I can't imagine how many miles I'd have to drive for that to happen. However, it is a very different driving experience compared to the 335i and I think you basically need to test drive each model and make your own decision. When I bought my 335d I did this and I decided on the 335d. Having driven it nearly a year I'm still happy with my decision. However, the new 2TC option (7-speed dual clutch) for the 335i certainly has made me reconsider getting a new 2009 E92 335i .. but I'm gonna wait another year and see how it goes. Had they built the 2009 335d with the same 7-speed gearbox I'd have chosen that no question.

In terms of economical value I have a bigger expectation towards a possible 323d using the 2.0 biturbo diesel already in production in the BMW 123d. It's a 2.0 4 cylinder engine producing 204bhp and 400nm torque(!). It has considerably better economy than my 335d and it's _nearly_ as fast in most situations. I know this because my good friend owns a 123d, and I've driven it on several occasions. It doesn't have the same growl, and it's doesn't pull as hard in the higher revs, but it's still as fast as you'd ever need in everyday driving.

Thanks for your input, and I could not agree more! I think that as soon as the buying public understands that 99% of the population will never use a car at its full performance level (or legally drive at those speeds). We will see cars that will get great economy with about 95% of the current performance. I am sure it will take the US population much longer to see this but it will eventually happen and then theses cars will finally become available to us.... until then we get what we get and make the most of it!

That is for filling the BluePerformance urea solution for the diesel emissions.

The fluid is injected into the exhaust system. You need to fill it every 3-6 months

PDC is in the back and the front on all 3-Series for 2009. And Heated Steering wheel makes an appearance in the Cold Weather Package. The Filler Door on the Driver's Side is the AdBlue for the emissions system. If the AdBlue runs out, the car will shut down the next time you shut the engine down and won't restart until you refill it.
