Thanks for the update 3er. I shot off an e-mail to my CA as well. I'm hoping that my car makes it up to Norcal by this weekend as well.

I just received word from my CA that the hauler bearing my car pulled into the local BMW center just moments ago. I am scheduled to take delivery on Monday afternoon.

Hope those of you with 335s held up by bureaucracy are in your new cars soon!

Congrats man!!! I'm glad that at least some of "our" group is getting their cars in the next couple of days... I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't a little jealous though! I can't wait to see pics!

I am not able to take delivery of my new car until Monday, but I managed to grab a few photos on the way by the local BMW center this evening (click for larger versions).

I simply cannot wait to drive it home.

Okay, so based on my calculation, this boat, Traviata left on 9-18-2008 and arrived at westcoast Port Hueneme on 10-7-08.

This means the boat took 19 days to arrive to the west coast from Germany. Does that sound about right? Just a little under 3 weeks?

So that would mean, on the 4th week, it is possible to receive their cars on the 4th week of the time the boat left the dock in Germany?

a guy in Arcadia, CA said he ordered a car, and from the day of production to picking it up, I counted 34 days.

unfortunately, I won't be receiving my car until new years time.

my car is scheduled from production last week of November 2008, 09 335i coupe.

Bah! I neglected to note that Monday the 13th is a bank holiday, and thus I'll have to delay until Tuesday. Silly Columbus Day!

I am having the OEM aluminum pedal set installed by the local center--one of the prep things they are doing today. I already have the road spare on its way from Tischer to enable replacement of the RFTs and a non-destructive front license plate solution. Plan on debadging for the cleaner look and having 3M Crystalline Tint all around and clear bra done shortly after taking delivery. I am not certain, but it appears to me that the front amber reflectors are a different size/shape than the current E92 versions, so I'll have to await LCI E90 versions of the painted reflectors.

Aside from the cosmetics, I'll enjoy it for a bit and see what strikes my fancy down the road. If someone comes up with a workable taillight replacement that is a bit less...red, I might take a look.

Congrats a couple of days in advance of taking possession of your new ride... It's been a long wait, but I'm sure it will be worth it. I'm just a little bit behind ya!

Howdy,

Traviata actually left port on Sep. 13th, so it took the ship 24 days to cross the Atlantic and unload her cargo in Port Hueneme. Under normal circumstances, cars would be delivered from the dock to the dealerships 3-14 days after the ship arrives at dock.[1]

When you order a car, the dealership will always tell you to expect an 8 - 12 week wait. This is actually very accurate and skews towards the 12 week number.

Sounds like a good start... hopefully BMW will come out with blacklines ASAP! Yea, I noticed the front reflectors are shaped differently... Can you tell if the front grille is also different than the E92? I wanted to get matte black grilles but I can't tell from the pictures. What % tint are you going with?

I haven't done an in-person comparison, but the LCI E90 and the E92 seem to have differing grille designs from photos I've inspected. I expect that as with the reflectors, we'll have to wait for aftermarket grille options.

I personally am not enamoured of the tinted look, and am primarily seeking UV and IR rejection rather than a significant cutdown in visible light passage, so I am opting for the 3M Crystalline 70.

A few pics of my new ride "in the wild," as it were.

Hope you twin-turbo Traviata and Hojin folks are tooling about in your 335s soon!

I did not have much occasion to play with the old iDrive version, so I don't have much frame of comparison there. The menus in the new iDrive are very responsive, and once one learns the interface paradigm, all of the functions are easily accessible. The iPod integration is a little quirky, but certainly usable once you've done it a time or two.

From a navigation standpoint, iDrive compares decently to my standalone Garmin nuvi 760. Many of the same functions are available on both--find nearest gas station/ATM/sushi bar, search by category/name/distance, multipoint routes, and traffic/construction detours. Database lookups are snappy, which I gather was not the case in the previous version. The iDrive navigation system doesn't seem to handle complex route calculation while moving terribly well--a route from the southern slopes of Mount Rainier to Seattle was up in seconds on the Garmin but took nearly three minutes to come up on the iDrive. A test of a similar route calculated while stationary was much quicker, so I'll remember to enter my routes before getting underway.

A few other notable issues I ran into during my drive today:
  • The system doesn't seem to store the state of the Random Play option when the vehicle is turned off. I had to select it myself each time I got back into the car and heard a few sequential tracks.
  • I am very fond of the Split Screen functionality, but there are a few issues with the interface while using it. Specifically, the ability to enter an destination address through the Navigation on the left side of the split doesn't seem to work--the menu controls don't allow you to rotate down through the fields as you would normally be able to. When I cancelled the Split Screen, it worked fine--put the Split back, broken again.

I expect there will be a few functionality updates as well as new content updates as the new iDrive becomes more widespread. Even with a few issues, it works better than I had reason to expect.
