So to the no shoes in the house people. Do you have pets? Do they go outside? How do you handle that? Is it like cattle where they must walk though this container of disinfectant? Do they wear special little shoes outside?

They are the same people who keep their dogs in crates.

Realistically, they probably don’t have dogs. More likely to own one of those hairless cats.

Who wears shoes inside the house lol, don't even know people that do that. And yes, we used to have a dog. When its dry and clean outside no problem, otherwise we used to wash his paws.

My dog was never in a crate and he just went in my backyard. He did go on a lot of car rides & for walks. He wasn't prancing around the French quarter on Bourbon or walking through nasty hospitals and wound care centers all day.

Anyone who owns a hairless cat is creepy. I don't mind cats but don't want to own any type of one.

If you squint, kind of looks like grandpa at the beach.

My dog's smooth paw pads do not track in dirt, gravel and glass like the treads of my shoes. Also, when dropping food on the floor, the "ten second rule" does not apply when you have a three-second dog. So no worries about germs there

No pets, but when I lived with roommates who were dog owners, after walks, you’d just wipe down paws with baby wipes or wet paper towels. It’s a couple minutes tops and prevents weird shit from getting tracked around your house floors, furniture and beds.

So what if I'm wearing sandals with no socks that have fairly clean soles and my feet are dirty, do you still want me to take my shoes off? Rules need flexibility.

We clean our dogs after they go out, which is better than nothing. Of course, they also pick up some stuff in their coats outside and you can't get all of it. Plus they shed and lick stuff so can never be perfect.

Our dogs are in an out of the house all day long, no way we could keep up with wiping their paws.

I am 49 too. I only used orthotics shortly back then, about 44 years ago. Wearing just regular shoes since. Not looking for arch support specifically but quite welcoming it. I still have some flat feet, especially the left one. I hate it failing. It feels so nice to move nicely (not only the feet working but springy legs too)! You just don't know what you are missing. Pets, unless in a container (bird cage, fish tank) do affect cleanliness standards you can set, of course. But no excuses for sinking in shit. It should be clear (particularly with dogs, perhaps ) whether it's the pet or you who sets standards at your home and who just follows them to the ability tolerable. That is, you can keep your pet reasonably clean or use it to "justify" not keeping yourself clean. I saw online advertising of paws cleaning accessories (dedicated). Looked so nice even though I've no pet.

My dogs don't go out for a walk. The door to the yard is open most of the day and they go in and out as they please. That being said if I had to walk my dog down some of the piss and shit covered street some people live on... I guess I would be wiping paws before they came back in. Mainly because they jump on the couch and bed. Same when it's raining, they get a full wipe down and paw cleaning because they will be covered in mud. But that's the exception.

Not sure who is talking about keeping yourself clean. The whole thread is about floors and commies who don't wear shoes in the house.

Not Asian, but I wear nothing. I just think about going to the bathroom at my office and the kind of stuff I step on by the urinal alone, no chance in hell I'm wearing what I brought from the outside, inside my house.

Plus, I've always found shoes and socks to be constraining, maybe just my wide feet, but it's far more comfortable to wear nothing. I find that to be the case for any other article of clothing. I try to wear as little as possible of anything, the moment I get home.

Sleeping and wearing anything? Forget about it.

I'm not sure which streets you've been walking down but I have never seen piss and shit on the sidewalks in my neighborhood. Come to think of it, I've been on Bourbon a lot in my years and never seen anyone take a dump on the street or walk past a pile. Urine and vomit yes but human feces, no. Where have you been traveling with your dogs? Just want to put that on my places of not to visit list.

No idea. I just see other peoples post about being very concerned with all the piss and shit they might bring into the house while outside. So... I figure the streets must be full of piss and shit somewhere.

Haha, I've had a good laugh at some of these responses. I hope OP was able to get a recommendation for a good pair of house slippas somewhere in the last 4 pages.
